In a year that thus far hasn't been amazing for the horror genre, Longlegs is an easy pick for me as the best of 2024 so far since it's a legitimately terrifying and phenomenal horror film that's maybe the scariest new movie I've seen in a long time. A lot of the scares here, both with jumpscares and (even more so) ones that aren't, are just excellent as Oz Perkins directs the hell out of this. It gets under your skin in the best ways and the Satanic/serial killer vibes it goes for are simply immaculate, becoming more and more effective and haunting the further it goes. There's also a terrific cast led splendidly by Maika Monroe (always love seeing her lead a great horror film) and Nick Cage in one of the best roles I've seen him in in ages. This is simply stunning and bone-chilling in all the ways I love, and Longlegs is a must-see horror film that's so great to watch with a crowd who are all into a film like this.
