So I definitely think the hype for this one may have gotten the better of me. That being said, I still really liked this, and I plan on rewatching it at some point down the line. There really was a lot to like about it. Nicolas Cage was in full ‘Nicolas Cage’ mode, something he’s excelled at for years, but I found this time to be less special than his previous over the top performances, though still very good. There were also some fantastic shots to help build the tension and some very creepy imagery, but once again, very good but not quite at the levels I was hoping for. I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed Maika Monroe’s performance, which I think speaks volumes because I didn’t really like some of her character’s choices. That just goes to show how good I think she was. Overall, a lot of elements that I really liked, but not many that I loved, and when you put it all together, there’s a really good movie here, just one that fell short of what I was hoping for.
