We all have comfort movies. Movies that we rely on to make us feel safe and happy... Longlegs is literally the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. Longlegs is an UNcomfy movie.
This is the type of horror to leave you uneased and claustrophobic. A film dripping in atmospheric dread and anxiety. Every frame feeling as if it is some kind of nightmare. It’s physiologically torturous and is fueled by nothing but despair and pure fucking evil. Longlegs isn’t a ‘make you jump out of your skin’ type of horror, it’s the type of horror that leaves you sitting in your chair frozen after the credits have rolled, feeling as you have just been cursed during those 2 hours you've just endured.
Static shots will linger on screen just a few more seconds that you would usually feel comfortable with, making you franticly gaze into the deep dark abyss of every shot to find something lurking in the background which may or may not even be there...but sometimes there is. It’s a film made with a clear undying love for the genre, despite it feeling as if it had been forged in hell by Satan himself.
Longlegs is an incredibly patient film. It feels like a shadow looming over your shoulder. The longer it goes on, the more it feels as if things are getting worse. More evil. More bleak. More soulless and dark…until it just ends.
Evil most certainly exists. And in Longlegs, it’s everywhere. Watching and waiting in the dark until it’s time to reel itself in the carnage and torment it’s presence beholds upon you.
In other words, it's the coolest fucking horror movie I've seen in years…
