Well, it's official. I've spent a day of my life watching this, my (still can't believe I'm saying this) favorite movie of all time. I've written and talked about it a lot already, but for this entry, I want to hone in on the four things that make this so special to me.

First movie of the year. First movie of the decade. First movie of the life, really.
I honestly never thought something could challenge JFK as my favorite movie, but here we are.
It’s what it is.
It was no more complicated than that.
There are no less than 30 moments in this movie that send a chill up my spine.
Tommy DeVito deserved to die.
Jimmy Hoffa didn’t.
That’s why this is Marty’s masterpiece.
The fact that this is already #8 on my top 100 of all time should tell you all you need to know when it comes to my love for this movie.
And like the sun, it will rise.

The Irishman is a masterfully assembled epic of breathtaking scale and substance.
Martin Scorsese’s 3+ hour chronicle of the last gasp of organized crime in America is undoubtedly the best picture of 2019, and it just might have to be in the conversation for one of the best films of the decade. The way things seem to be going it might be the best of the next decade too.

Still blows my mind how damn great Seth Rogen is in this movie.
Never before has a movie existed that makes me more and less motivated to write than Steve Jobs does.
On the one hand, it motivates me to write by showing just how words can be just as powerful as gunshots, fight sequences or explosions.
On the other, it makes any writing not done by Aaron Sorkin feel unnecessary. He has the best words. I am stupid and have bad words.

Steve Jobs is a masterpiece. There's no other way to say it. Immaculate plotting, confident direction, a half a dozen knockout performances and the best screenplay of the 21st century come together in one of my favorite movies ever made.
Sorkin, in addition to being my favorite writer of all time spanning every medium, writes a screenplay so good that it wasn't even nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Probably because the Academy voters realized that no award was prestigious enough for this brilliance.

By now, this has to be one of my 10 most watched movies ever (this'll be 6 watches in the last 18 months) and yet, Steve Jobs still feels brand new.
I could watch it again right now and still be just as captivated as the first time.
