Prince William, also known as Will, is major character in Hooky. Introduced as Princess Monica's missing fiance and Damien's best friend, eventually he becomes a major character who allies himself with the witches fighting the Wytte Army. He eventually becomes co-ruler and king of his and Monica's kingdoms.

Appearance[]

William has dirty blonde, medium-long hair, thick brows, and green eyes. He usually is seen wearing a white shirt under a green doublet with slashed sleeves and golden refinement, gray pants, brown belt, and brown boots. He also always wears a necklace with a golden ring on it, which represents his engagement to Monica. Sometimes has used less formal attires, which consist of a shirt or sweater, pants, belt, and boots.

After the timeskip, his appearance has slightly changed. He is taller, his hair is now cut short and his body is more muscular.

Personality[]

William is shown to be quite careless and jocular throughout the series, though Damien states he likes to play dumb. In fact, under his joyous attitude, he's shown to be highly observant and deeply secretive. As the future heir of his own kingdom as well as Monica's (through their engagement), he was trained to reign from a young age. For this reason, he puts his royal duties over everything, even his own wishes. He knows he is not as strong as his friends, but he loathes feeling useless. For that reason he often makes reckless and bold decisions, putting himself in danger, especially when the people he cares the most are in trouble.

History[]

William was born as an only child to his parents. Around the time he was born, his father and Monica’s father swore an alliance with each other that they would support one another’s kingdoms on a condition that witches would not be harmed despite the stale relationship between humans and witches.

When he was around 3, he met Monica, one of his childhood friends and his future fiancée. Since he was not taught much at a young age, he instantly blamed her when he accidentally broke a vase, which made his mother cross. He grew quite close to her and agreed to become betrothed with her, not really knowing better for himself.

Around the same time or later, his father broke the truce that he and Monica’s father shared by declaring Angela Wytte to be burned at the stake. He most likely didn’t know about it, mostly due to him being little.

Then one day, he met Damien Wytte, the son of the mother that his father had tried burning. (He didn't know at the time, but later realized.) He instantly became friends with him, claiming he was a fairy[2] though knowing Damien was a witch. After Damien went to the palace, Damien, Will, and Monica, were inseparable. He grew to trust Damien as much as he trusted Monica. After this, he most likely joined forces with Damien and some others to fight the Wytte family; being captured in the process.

Story[]

Introduction arc[]

The twins first see him in episode 3 where Aunt Hilde gives the two the job to take him to the prison. It is unknown how he was kidnapped. Dani and Dorian then proceed to take him in a cage suspended with brooms. Dorian is not able to ride a broom to save his life. He gets kicked down by Dani in the cage along with William. In this humorous situation, William stares and Dorian whines to Dani that the "delinquent" is staring at him funny.

He grabs at Dorian in hope that he would listen and describes the twins as "different from them" to which Dani misunderstands, later saying "we're just as good as them."

One of the warlocks states that what William is fighting for is in vain since it's against the Wytte family (this is how we see how much power the Wytte family actually has). William replies that it is not in vain as he dramatically poses along with the other princes as if it were "bringing out the bestselling album of 2015." This is when the reader starts gets a glimpse that the twins may be on the wrong side.

Powers and abilities[]

Throughout the series, William is repeatedly shown to have little to no talents due to him being a prince and mostly kept in “a bubble.” He is also human and does not possess any magical traits or abilities. He is said to have the ability to "pretend everything's under control."

Sword fighting[]

During his childhood, William decided he wanted to be more useful so he took lessons on learning how to sword fight. At first, he did not seem very capable, being very susceptible to attacks and quite futile in blocking and dodging, but, with practice, he gradually improved and used it when fighting monsters. He used this ability in attacking the giant octopus.

Relationships[]

Main characters[]

  • Monica: Right before William and Monica were to be wed, Dani interrupted their marriage ceremony. The two of them are childhood friends. After their marriage and Dorian's return, Will is shown to believe that it's their duty to become king and queen, and to unite their kingdoms. They both know about one another's relationships, such as Monica's love for Dorian, and William and Damien's relationship. Will, Monica, and Damien promised to be friends and be together forever, and reveal to Damien that their relationship is platonic, and are currently preparing for a sort of divorce when things settle down so they don't have to hide their relationships.
  • At the beginning, Monica believes she is in love with Will, and embarks on a journey to save him. However, she's hit him a few time with romance novels.
  • Damien Wytte: William and Damien have been friends since they first met as children. Throughout Hooky, Damien is shown to have deeper feelings for Will that go beyond friendship, and puts Will above everyone else. He usually blushes when around William.
  • When William is kidnapped and put to sleep by Angela Wytte, Damien was the one who was able to break the spell by giving him a "true love's kiss."
  • Damien has always known that he loved Will, but he never acted upon it because he wanted William to make his own decision. William always believed that it was his duty to marry Monica and that it is something he must do, but after Monica decides to stay true to her real feelings, William is inspired and does the same with Damien.
  • Damien becomes William’s personal advisor in a later episode, Monica hinting: "He (Damien) won't bear to part with Will."
  • Dorian Wytte: William might have been annoyed at him, but this sprouted from the confusion Monica caused when she declared her love for Dorian. However, this plays a role in his relationship with Damien. Regardless, he still supports the relationship Dorian and his childhood friend share.
  • Daniela Wytte: He rushed in to save her from a giant octopus, risking his life in the process. This might indicate that he cares, but it was probably just caused from seeing his friends in danger. He doesn't have any particular interaction with her in the series.
  • Nico: He doesn’t directly interact with Nico that much in the series but they don’t display any negative feelings towards each other.
  • Mark Evans: He isn’t particularly close with Mark but he doesn’t hold any resentment or grudge against him nor does he dislike him in any manner.

Supporting characters[]

  • William's father: William has a strained relationship with his father due to their different views of witches, with William‘s father hating witches to the point of trying to burn one alive and threatens to kill his friends. However, he cries during his father's funeral.
  • William's mother: William’s relationship towards his mother is alright, as they don’t share different views towards witches. They don’t really interact that much, but it was shown that his mother sympathized with witches.
  • Ivy: Having not really interacted that much in the show, there isn‘t as much to say about these two. However, William most likely trusts Ivy as she is Monica’s lady-in-waiting and has accompanied her through her time in the palace. The two are cousins, and Ivy speaks to William in a teasing tone.
  • Anne: William most likely trusts Anne due to her being Monica’s lady-in-waiting and friend during her time in the palace. They aren’t exactly friends as they don’t really interact outside of their respected friend group.
  • Amir: Being both royals, the two most likely hung out. They don't interact in the main timeline, but have been shown to visit each other's palaces and play with other royals in Damien's flashback. He's invested in William's and Damien's love life.
  • Monica's father: Being Monica’s childhood friend, he trusted him and was also quite close with her father as well. He was devastated when he was killed, seeing him as a fatherlike figure, from his time at the palace.
  • Aisha: The two hung out when they were younger, visiting each other's palaces and playing games. However, they don't interact directly.
  • Angela Wytte: Doesn't seem to bear much grudge against her, but to a certain extent doesn't like her and is uncomfortable around her due to when he was kidnapped and the murder of Monica's parents. In the Q&A episodes, Mrs. Wytte suggests seducing him to secure the throne.
  • Hans Wytte: Most likely holds a grudge against him, but he is hated by Hans more than William hates him.
  • Hilde Wytte: She imprisoned him and his friends into a dungeon, but doesn't show much reaction, instead focusing on escaping.

Quotes[]
