Hooky first came to life when Míriam participated in the 2014 Inktober challenge, a challenge for artists to make one ink drawing a day. Míriam drew Dani and Dorian on October 20th and soon became so "obsessed with them" that she started to develop a comic about them. A friend suggested that she compete in one of WEBTOON's contests at the time.[5][6] Hooky soon debuted on WEBTOON's Challenge League (now called CANVAS) and on March 22, 2015, Míriam announced that Hooky would become a featured webtoon on the platform.[7]

Post-release[]

On July 26th, 2020, six months after the final episode was released, Hooky was made into a WEBTOON Daily Pass series, locking episodes 22 to 222 to the WEBTOON app. Unlike most Daily Pass series, Hooky allows 2 chapters to be unlocked per day, instead than of the standard 1.

On January 29, 2021, Míriam announced on Instagram that Hooky would be published in print.[8] The first volume was released on September 7th, 2021 by HMH/Clarion Books under the Etch imprint. This volume contains the first 71 chapters of the series. Míriam also revealed that when reformatting the series for the volume, the first 60 pages had to be redrawn because the original files were lost. In addition, the volume includes an extra 10 pages of content, as well as an updated translation.[9][10] A Spanish edition of the volume was announced on October 31, 2021.[11]
