Daniela Wytte, more commonly known by her nickname Dani, is the female protagonist and also the poster girl of the series. She is the middle child of Hans and Angela Wytte as well as the sister of Dorian and Damien Wytte. A young witch, she's more cheerful, bubbly, and outgoing than her twin brother Dorian is, although she has a harder time controlling her magic. Dani is more of a broom flier and later in the first book tries to leave her magic behind. Daniela is more likely to be flying her broom instead of performing magic or studying.
Appearance[]
Dani is a girl with fair skin, straight black hair and black eyes, just like her parents and her twin, Dorian Wytte. At first, Dani wore her hair long with a white bow tied into it and her usually all black and white clothes matched Dorian's.[1] However, later on, she cuts her hair short and changes her clothing to a pair of denim overalls (they were Nico’s) and a red undershirt, much to her brother's dismay.[2] Eventually, her hair grows back and she and Dorian return to matching with black and white clothes.
Much later in the story, when she is sixteen years old, she shows to have grown her hair down to the ground. She also dons a long dress with mesh sleeves and a black crown. This was when she was cursed and upon being released she disliked her long hair and dress.
After her curse was lifted, she decided to cut her hair mid-length and wore a shorter dress with some red added. The reason why she cut Her hair is because she tripped over it and said, "I just tripped over... My hair? This hair is stupidly long." Her hat is also no longer black—it is now red with some gold trims on the bottom. She also has a red and gold coat to match her hat and to show she is the new royal messenger. She also wears a bag filled with scrolls from the Queen (Monica).
During the ceremony she attended with Monica, she wore a mermaid-style purple dress with a sparkly purple hat to go on top. Her hair was shorter and trimmed.
Personality[]
Dani is optimistic and more socially secure than her brother. She is very confident and considers those around her to be her friends. Dani is normally happy and kind for she sees the bright side of everything and everyone. Despite this certainty, Dani is deeply worried by the lack of control and skill she has in her magic compared to Dorian.
After the incident where she almost got burned at the stake for being a witch, she was unsure where she stood between witches and non-magical people. The events on floating rock furthered this confusion, causing her to abandon her witch roots and attempt to become a "normal" person. However, after the disaster of the castle party and Alex's death, she realizes that witches aren't just inherently bad, making her her even more unable to choose a side. After she witnesses what she believes to be her twin's death, though, she no longer seems to care about sides and is content as an empty shell.
During the 3 year time skip in the story, she becomes cold, distant, and easily manipulatable due to cursing herself, allowing her to forget the pain of losing her loved ones who were lost, due to the witch conflict. However, she later returns to her joyful past self once the spell is broken.
History[]
Daniela was born to a family of witches, only a few minutes before her twin brother Dorian. Her mother, Angela, who had recently suffered from a traumatic experience, was severely depressed, so Dani was mainly taken care of by her father, her older brother, and the house's servants.[3] Soon, though, Damien left the house and her father got busy with their family's revenge, so Dani used to spend most of her time playing alone with her twin brother and her black kitten. Since her parents didn't want her and her brother to leave the house as Damien did, they kept them unaware of their revenge plan.[4] One day, Damien came back home and Dani saw him having a fight with their father, which prompted her older brother to leave the family for good.[5]
Since their family had been persecuted by non-magical people, Dani and her twin were forbidden from leaving the house. They tried several times to flee and reach the nearby town, but they were always caught and brought back by their servants or parents. Their family also started to teach them that non-magical people were dangerous, so Dani became wary of them.[6]
Some years later, when she and Dorian turned twelve, they enrolled in a school of magic, missing their bus on the way to said school. This marks the start of Hooky’s story.
Story[]
Introduction arc[]
The first day of school, Dani and her brother miss the bus which should have brought them to magic school. Dani thinks of using her broom to catch up to it, but her brother stops her because there are too many non-magical people around. Sadly, the bus teleports, and since neither of them knows the secret location of the school, they can't go there by themselves. Since their parents would get angry if they knew Dani and Dorian missed their first year at school, the twins decide to find a mentor who they could stay with and learn from for the next nine months.[7]
Dani and Dorian travel to their aunt Hilde's castle and ask her to become their mentor. She refuses at first, but she is ultimately persuaded by Dorian. The next morning, Dani and Dorian receive their first task: clean the library and reorganize the books in the right shelves. Dani uses her broom to sort the disordered books faster while her brother uses a wooden staircase. She complains he is too slow, so he decides to use a levitation spell he found in one of the books. The books start to fly in the air and towards their shelves, and Dani, amazed, tries to replicate the spell. However, when she cast it, the spell did not work properly and only resulted in Dorian being hit by the flying books. She saves him by picking him up with her broom.
After all the books are back to their respective places, Dani, Dorian and their cat run to Hilde, but they end up eavesdropping on a conversation between her and a servant of hers, the huntsman. Hilde commands the man to go into the forest and take Snow White's heart. However, the twins misunderstand the meaning of her words, and to prove they are not useless, they decide to help the huntsman in seducing Snow White.
The twins tail the man at first, but when they see he is a very friendly person, they start with their plan: they wash him, shave his beard, put perfume on him, re-design his jacket, and then give him a bouquet of roses.[8] Then they go back to their aunt to tell her they helped the huntsman with his chore. Pleased to hear the news, their aunt gives them a worthier mission for them: take an "enemy of the witches" to the prison. After accepting the task, Dorian and Dani put the prisoner in a cage and start to carry him toward the prison with their brooms.
However, Dorian is not very good at flying and repeatedly hits the trees along the way, so Dani suggests her brother get on her broom while she carries the cage on her own. This doesn't last long, though. Dorian is afraid of falling and starts to complain about everything, so Dani orders him to get inside the cage with the delinquent for the rest of the way.
At the prison, Dani and Dorian are welcomed by the old wizard who is in charge of it and his guards. The group takes the prisoner and head to the dungeons to look him up with other dangerous delinquents. Upon arriving at the dungeons, the witches lock up the enemy and throw him with the other prisoners. The prisoner grabs Dorian’s arm and tries to convince him to free him. Dani, seeing the prisoner as a threat, grabs Dorian and leads him away. She and Dorian begin to exit the castle; however, captivated by a dragon's egg, Dorian runs and steals it, dragging Dani with him. The twins climb on the broomstick and Dani attempts to steer them out of the castle. However they are attacked by the adult witches, causing Dorian to escape safely but drop the egg. to escape. But before long, Dani's broom breaks in half and the twins are forced to use the train.
This attempted theft causes one of the higher-up witches and his family to take advantage of the incident and label the Wytte family as traitors to the witches’ cause.
The Soothsayer Arc[]
The twins take the train, hoping to find somewhere they can find a master to take them in. The train makes a stop at a small village. A ball comes crashing through the window, nearly hitting Dani. Nico runs in the train, claims the ball and, recognizing the twins, says that someone had been looking everywhere for them. The twins follow the boy. Dani is able to keep up with Nico, but Dorian quickly falls behind, by the end they've reached a house with the label- "Pendragon the Great Soothsayer." Dorian then slips up accidently revealing that they are witches and Dani quickly admonishes him for it. But Nico says he already knows and reveals that he used to be the master's assistant but left "the weirdo" and that they don't have to worry.
Nico then makes his leave allowing the students to go in the house alone. They meet Pendragon for the first time who's on the ground exclaiming that he's been waiting so long to meet them. Pendragon then gives them so hot cocoa and quickly explains to them that there's been issues between the witches and non-magical community and he wants to take them in as his apprentices to help them become good wizard, which the twins give rather lukewarm answers to. Pendragon is about to being their training when he's called to being his job as a soothsayer and the twins take the opportunity to explore the house. Dani quickly finds a bedroom and claims it as her own which leads Dorian to frantically search the house for his own. he finds the balcony room and when Dani sees it she asks to switch but Dorian promptly shoots her down.
The next day, we see Dani getting ready for the day before going downstairs where she sees her twin and Pendragon already eating breakfast. The master then explains that they'll be cleaning that day which the twins express their disappointment about their assignment. however Dani cheers up and tries to do a cleaning spell which fails miserably causing a fire. Pendragon then says they'll be cleaning the traditional way. While cleaning, the twins see Nico outside the window and Dorian tries to say hi but is ignored.
Later on, when Dani is outside, alone, she's approached by Nico and his friends asking for her help to rescue their toy plane from the town bully Mark Evans. Dani agrees but only if Nico starts calling her extremely extravagant names like "The Great and Beautiful Dani" instead of getting her name purposefully wrong. Dani goes to the cafe where Mark works and assumes that one of the boys sitting is the bully Mark. To act casual she orders raisin bran pudding from a nearby waiter, eating several them (despite her obvious disgust to them.) to stall time and figure out what spell to use to get the plane back. She finally gathers up her courage and casts a spell that goes horribly wrong, per usual. The plane grows an alarming size crashing through the window and making a purple fire. She's saved by the handsome waiter she ordered from earlier and its revealed that the waiter is the actual Mark Evans and not the boy she had assumed it was. She retrieves the plane, now broken in half, and returns it to Nico and his gang who now proclaim her "boss."
Nico and Dani return to the master's house hoping to get Dorian to fix the plane. Dorian quickly does and attempts to talk to Nico who ignores him again, only thanking "Queen Dani," Dani and Nico begin to leave but then Dani asks Dorian to lend her some money to pay for the raisin bran she ate at the Evans cafe.
The next day, the twins are about to start their witch lessons under Pendragon when Nico interrupts, bringing Princess Monica and her guards whom are looking for her fiancée Prince William and wants to know her future. The Master agrees to read her future leaving the twins, Monica's guards, and Nico alone in the living room. Once her future has been read she declares that she'll be staying with the master. However, Dorian's secret pet frog Carlo breathes out fire and destroys a curtain, causing Dani to question her twin in amazement. But this reveals to Monica and co that they're witches, and she freaks out and orders her guards to attack. Dani attempts to protect her brother but is pushed down and soon everyone starts fighting. Dorian uses a levitating spell to threaten Monica and her guards, scaring them and making them retreat.
However, Dani, realizing how bad the situation could get if she allows the princess to escape, is able to stop Monica and convinces her that not all witches are bad, and they want to help her fight bad witches and rescue Prince William. Monica agrees and Dani says they'll fight together, but Monica is still angry at Dorian and isn't convinced he's a good guy.
With Nico and the Master's efforts they give the guards amnesia tea and with Monica's order they leave forgetting everything from where they've been to who they are.
Powers and Abilities[]
Dani is a naturally gifted witch just like her brothers and heritage. She however does not have much control over her abilities, unlike her brothers. But, she is a very powerful witch.
Curses[]
Throughout the series, Dani has the ability to curse people and herself, having shrunk Nico and making a dome for herself in her mind to shut off the conflict in the world. She does not have much control of it however even until the end of the series and the person she's cursed has to do an action that will lift them off it.
Broom flying[]
Like many witches, Dani has the ability to fly with a broom. She normally has regular races with Nico despite the fact he can’t fly on brooms.
Telekinesis[]
Dani has the ability of telekinesis, though has only used it twice due to a fit of rage. This is performed without a wand and rather with her mind, which is an unusual ability for witches.
Natural athleticism[]
Unlike her brother Dorian, Dani is quite good at being athletic, having plenty of broom races with Nico. She has much more stamina and runs quite a lot.
Relationships[]
Main characters[]
- Dorian Wytte: Dani and her twin brother have a very close relationship. They grew up together isolated from society due to discrimination against witches and relied on each other. They stay by each other's side for the majority of the series. Their relationship is one of the closest in the series with Dani mostly going to Dorian for many things, mainly as support and for advice. She went to her twin brother first when she nearly got burned at stake by discriminators that opposed the witches.
- Monica: At first she distrusts Dani and Dorian due to being witches, but eventually becomes friends with them- including becoming one of Dani's best friends. At one point, though, Dani was envious of Monica since Dorian was spending more time with her when it used to just be the two of them. However, Dani still cared for her and was honest about her jealousy, so she reconciled with her.
- Nico: A boy that we meet near the beginning of the comic. He has a fun, bubbly and very energetic personality. During the comic, we notice that he has anxiety and slight depression, and even admits that he likes her in a later episode to Monica. He later stays with Dani when she becomes the queen of witches. At the end of the series, Nico and Dani later on take a trip together, marking the start of their romantic relationship. First when Dani meets Nico, she finds him annoying when she almost gets hit in the head with a soccer ball kicked by Nico.
- Mark Evans: Dani's ex-crush and works in a cafe with his father. At the start of the story, he and Dani meet when the cafe suffers from an explosion.(Mark not knowing that Dani was the catalyst of it) During their encounter, Dani found him attractive and, not wanting him to find out she‘s a witch or the cause of the explosion, ran away before he could ask for her name.
- Damien Wytte: Dani and Dorian's older brother. He leaves his family to work under the King to be with a friend, William. Although he left his family, he doesn’t hate them and just doesn’t agree with his parents' ideals. He states that he regrets leaving his younger siblings later in the Webtoon.
Supporting characters[]
- The Huntsman: He is the Huntsman from the story of Snow White, and he was ordered by Dani's and Dorian's aunt to kill Snow White and take her heart. However, Dani and Dorian misinterpreted it so they thought that the huntsman needs to make Snow White fall in love with him so they cleaned and tidied him up to look handsome. He later re-appears and recognizes her, and agrees to help save her.
- Hilde Wytte: Dani and Dorian's aunt. At the beginning of the comic, both Dani and Dorian are unsuspecting of Hilde's evil plans, wanting to impress her in hopes of getting them to live with her.
- Pendragon: Dani and Dorian's master. He takes them in when they don't have someone to teach them magic. She is currently neutral about him since he wanted to kill the two twins but also try to create peace between the witches and humans.
- Ivy: The two don’t really talk very much outside of their friend group. However the two respect each other and support each other, with Ivy liking her due to her being Monica’s friend.
- Anne: The two don’t interact much but they respect and support each other, with Anne telling Dani to cheer up at the end of the series when she and Monica are crowned as queens.
- Hans Wytte: Dani loved her father when she was younger, enjoying to play with his moustache. Even after his death, she still loves him, attending his funeral with Angela and Hilde.
- Angela Wytte: Dani loves her mother like she loves every member of her family but they do not share the same views on humans with Angela wanting to reenact her revenge on them and Dani not wanting to bring violence on anyone. It is only when Dani was pushed to the limits did she join her mother’s beliefs though this was only temporary.
- Grandmother wolf: Dani helps her with making a potion that can heal her injuries forever. Grandmother Wolf cares and cherishes her like her own granddaughter, grateful for making the healing potions for her. She made meals for her whenever she came.
- Alex: Dani considers Alex a friend, grateful for everything her and her band have done for them. When she snuck away from the palace with Mark and Nico, she saw Alex’s band perform their concert. She was devastated when she was murdered, activating her telekinesis for the first time and discovering that humans can be awful.
- Noah: She is quite grateful to Noah for letting them stay refuge at him and Barry’s place. Noah says he sees Alex in her when they venture out to the deserts.
- Barry:She is thankful to Barry for his hospitality towards the group, having let them stay at their place and helping Monica in disguising herself as a witch so she wouldn’t get caught.
- Romas: She first encounters him when he is dancing naked with Alice, being slightly embarrassed. Later on, Dani goes on to stay at Romas and Alice’s place for the night, not knowing of the dark intentions that they both have for her. She is slightly mad that they trapped her with an evil spirit and that they stole their potions from them.
- Alice: Alice and Dani, at first, were friends until she deceived her friends and trapped her in a nightmare-like dream. She's been neutral about both her and Romas after the incident; not speaking to her.
- Monica's father: She initially does not trust him since she thought that he would lock up her and her family. However, once he revealed that he was helping Pendragon, she changed her mind and the two were allies. She was shocked that he was murdered by her mother, not knowing what to do.
- Evil Spirit: Meeting when the Romas and Alice let him loose, he helped possess part of Dani’s subconscious, being at her side at all costs so she wouldn’t be free from his grasp. Eventually, she was freed and the two never crossed paths again.
- William: Since he is Monica’s friend and Damien‘s romantic partner, she views William in a positive manner and is supportive of the decisions he makes.
