Hans[1] Wytte is a reoccurring character in Hooky. Head of the renown and esteemed Wytte family, he is the husband of Angela Wytte, and the father of Damien, Dorian and Dani Wytte, as well as the younger brother of Hilde Wytte. He eventually becomes an antagonist of the series.
Appearance[]
Hans is a middle-aged witch of slender build, with an average height. He has black hair with a short, neat haircut- as well as a black pencil-thin mustache and thick eyebrows. He has black eyes, which is shared with his youngest children.
He is seen wearing different variations of the same outfit throughout the series. In his first appearances he wore a white, long sleeved shirt with a black necktie, black suspenders, with black pants and shoes. He occasionally wears a long, black trench coat.
In a piece of art done by Miriam Bonastre Tur at the end of an episode, we see a Hans as a young boy. He wore a white, long sleeved button up shirt with a black bow tie; with black suspenders, black knee-length shorts, and black mid-length socks-very similar to his youngest son's signature outfit.
When Hans was a young adult, in the time frame shortly before the twin's birth and before Damien left to be Prince William's butler, Hans is seen to be clean-shaven, and wore a black bow tie.
Personality[]
Hans was once understanding of humans earlier on, trying to deal with the bigotry shown to the witches. This changed and he later showed a hatred of humans, trying to enact revenge against them for harming his wife, due to Angela persuading him. He was angered by his rebellious children, though he had been pleased with the fact that one of his children is heir to be the King of Witches.
History[]
Not much is known about Han's early years. He presumably grew up in either Wytte Castle or Wytte Manor. Nothing is known about his parents or upbringing. He has an older sister, Hilde, though it is not know how far apart they are in age. Despite her being older, he assumed the title of being the head of the Wytte family, presumably when he came of age or when his own father died.
It is not know when or how he met Angela, although they eventually fell in love and got married, and sometime after had their eldest son, Damien. Eventually Angela became pregnant a second time. During this time, when Damien was a young child, he accidentally cast a spell on a local non-witch child, turning them into a toad. This led to the humans of the nearby village to storm Wytte Manor, capturing both Hans and his family, and being sent to death by King Edgar. While he comforted his son and watched his wife being burnt at the stake, they were saved last minute by King George. Despite being saved, his outlook on humans were forever changed.
In the time after this, Hans was very worried about Angela, as she suffered from a dark depression from the near-death experience, refusing to speak. Shortly thereafter, she gave birth to their youngest children, twins Daniela and Dorian. When Angela finally spoke again, and revealed her only desire was for revenge, he agreed to follow her. He began torturing, and in some cases murdering, local villagers who wronged their family He had little regard for who they were, even killing the parents of Damien's friend when they insulted his family. This continued for many years, and he began to neglect his children's emotional needs.
Around a year later, Hans began to work with Hilde and the Prison Warden to fund a Witches School, to help rally the next generation of witches to fight against humans. Hans was in favor of this school and sending Damien to it, something he and Angela disagreed on. When Damien decided to attend the school, he was actually quite smug about it to her. Eventually though when Damien decided to leave the school in order to join Prince William in Monica's kingdom, he was very reluctant to let him go out of concern for his safety, and only relented when Damien lied about doing so to spy on the royal family.
As the years continued, Hans and his family's quest for vengeance further grew. This further alienated him from Damien, as Hans saw him as weak willed and unwilling to help his family. This came to a breaking point during a family meeting when Damien refused to help kidnap William, and renounced his title as heir to the Wytte Family. Hans presumably didn't see or hear from Damien again for several years, until the ball at Monica's kingdom.
Eventually, Hans sent his youngest children off to Witches School, though he doesn't accompany them to make sure they reach the bus safely.

Relationships[]
Main Characters[]
- Dani Wytte: Hans' only daughter and second child. Not much is shown of their relationship, though it can be assumed that Dani respected and was a bit scared of her father, based on her fear of having to tell him that she missed the bus to school. They eventually have a falling out over her choice to side with the humans during the war, however.
- Dorian Wytte: Hans' second son, third and youngest child. Not much is shown of their relationship, though it can be assumed that Dorian respected and was a bit scared of his father, based on his fear of having to tell him that he missed the bus to school. Hans eventually considered Dorian the heir of the Wytte family after Damien became estranged, something that Dorian took pride in, and in turn must have made Hans respect him to some degree. They eventually have a falling out over his choice to side with the humans during the war, however. For a brief while, Hans sought out Dorian, believing him to be the true King of the Witches, though it is not know if this was a genuine emotion or just because of the prophecy. Dorian accidentally kills Hans in battle, in the end.
- Damien Wytte: Hans' firstborn son. Hans and Damien have had a strained relationship for most of their lives, due to their different beliefs in how humans should be treated. Hans eventually disowns Damien as the Wytte Family heir, and does not see or hear from him for several years. Hans only sought him out again after believing that Damien would be the King of the Witches. After Damien's betrayal, they become enemies once more.
Supporting Characters[]
- Angela Wytte: Hans's wife. He cares deeply for her, worrying about her constantly after nearly being burnt at the stake, and during her depression afterward. When she says she wants revenge on the humans, he agrees without a second thought. He frequently calls her pet names, such as 'honey,' and 'my love.'
- Hilde Wytte: Hans's sister. For the most part, they seem to be "partners in crime." They don't always see eye to eye, however - and constantly bicker with each other.
Trivia[]
- In an earlier episode, his first name was given as "Harold."[2] This is a continuity error.
