Donato is the dragon hatched from the dragon egg in episode 5. He seems to follow Dorian's orders as though Dorian were his mom/dad.

Appearance

He is a black dragon with wings that are grey on the undersides and red cat-like eyes with black pupils. He has many greyish spines and small horns around his body: three over his eyelids, three on each side of his head, one on the end of his wings' joints, and a long line that runs from the top of its head to most of its long tail. On the sides of his head, he also has a pair of ear-like appendix on the sides of its head and a pair of long, slightly curved, greyish horns with a spiral pattern. He has a long neck, four claws on each of his four legs, and a set of sharp teeth in his mouth.

After waking from his coma, Dorian puts a spell on Donato to make him smaller.

Personality

Donato seems to be extremely protective of Dorian, as he believes him to be his parent. However, he showed to be pretty stubborn, as he won't always listen to what Dorian says, though Dani explained that it probably happens because he is going through puberty. He is occasionally jealous of Carlo, fighting and competing with him.

Story

Donato was hatched from an egg that Dorian dropped while escaping the floating rock. Donato was not seen again until the Witches' Sabbath arc, where he saves Dorian and Dani from a powerful staff-wielding witch. Upon recognizing Donato as the dragon from the egg he'd attempted to steal, Dorian and Dani decide to ride on his back. Whilst airborne, Dani makes eye contact with the White Dragon, accidentally antagonizing it. Dani jumps off of Donato and defeats the White Dragon, but ends up falling. Dorian jumps off of Donato to go after her. Donato is not seen again until the Desert arc. Dorian accidentally falls into the cave where the dragons are sleeping (horde of dragons assembled by Angela Wytte in anticipation of Monica on her way to save William), and recognizes Donato, calling him "Little dragooon" (Donato was unnamed at the time). Dorian then rides Donato out of the cave, tailed by every other dragon that was sleeping in the cave. Chaos ensues, and Donato shoots fire in the direction of Damien Wytte, William, and Hans Wytte, killing Hans. Grief stricken after the death of his father, Dorian yells at Donato, telling him to fly away and set himself free, causing Donato to fly off. Later on in the story, when Dorian accidentally poisons himself, Donato finds him in a forest and protects him for three years whilst Dorian is in a coma. After being found by Carlo, Damien, Mark, Aisha, and Nico, Donato remains protecting Dorian. Damien devises a plan to distract Donato for long enough to give Dorian Monica's healing potion. After waking from his coma, Dorian tells Donato that Damien, Mark, Aisha, and Nico are his allies, causing the dragon to relax. He then puts a spell on him, causing Donato to shrink to about the size of Carlo. Carlo and Donato then have a small fight out of jealousy, which ends when Dorian faints.

Donato then tags alongside Dorian and Carlo as the story progresses. Dorian, Carlo, Mark, Nico, and Aisha go to the castle that was taken over by the Wyttes in search of Dani. In the castle, Donato and Carlo breathe fire onto a few witches in order to protect Dorian and to outcompete each other. Later, Donato's name is revealed when Dorian, Aisha, Monica, Nico, Mark, William, and Damien hiked up the mountain in hopes of finding Dani. Aisha tried to come up with names for Donato, but Dorian tells Aisha that his name is Donato. After staying in the cabin in the woods, Dorian spots Dani, and Donato and Dorian end up flying after her.

Powers and abilities

Donato is a fire breathing dragon with high resistance to magic. Also, like most of the dragons, he has a pair of big wings that allow him to fly.

Relationships

• Dorian: Donato believes Dorian is his mom.
• Carlo: The two seem to have a small rivalry for Dorian's love.

Trivia

• When Dorian dropped Donato, the dragon was not yet hatched, so when a crack formed, Dorian was the first thing that Donato saw. This later proved to be the reason why Donato considers Dorian his "mom."
