OBSESSED WITH MERLIN. When I first get into a fandom, I much prefer reading Canon AUs, so this is the longest of the rec lists. I still haven't seen season 4/5, so I've got several fics bookmarked that I know take place after those seasons, so definitely more recs to come!

Can I just talk about something that bugs me real quick? For me, fics that follow along with canon event in any fandom, are Canon AUs. Because it isn't actually canon, it's canon in an alternate universe of what could happen. Alternatively, fics that take place in the canon world, but don't follow canon events (like in Merlin fics where Merlin never came to Camelot, or grew up with the Druids, etc.) wouldn't be Canon AUs, they'd be Camelot AUs, alternate universes that take place in the Camelot world, but do not follow canon events. But nobody seems to agree with my way of seeing things, and most places refer to the fics in this list as "Canon AUs". C'est la vie.

This is the story of Tony growing up with Steve very much present in his life, and everything that changed because of it - and some things that didn't.
Really beautiful written and very cool AU, with Steve having been around all of Tony's life, and the MCU movies happening much earlier in Tony's life. LOVED the age difference here and the dynamics between Steve and Tony. Their relationship was wonderfully written, and the whole development was really spot on.

Between Shitty and Bitty, Jack is spoiled with the now.
Wonderfully real fic that cover's Jack's addition and continuous recovery. Jack was really beautifully characterized, and the development between Jack and Bitty's relationship was perfection.

Really lovely and super sexy fic with Merlin and Arthur accidentally getting soul-bonded without liking each other much. Which leads to lots of hot sex and of course ~feelings.

Really lovely Modern Reincarnation type fic. Loved seeing Arthur get used to the modern world, and Merlin rediscover himself with Arthur.

Super sweet fic with Spock's cousin, Selik, trying to set Spock and Kirk up, and then detailing their lives together. Just the sweetest thing. (There is also a WIP 3rd fic, but that is primarily Amanda/Serek, and I have not read it.)

Really fantastic fic with Spock and Kirk getting fake married to adopt an adorable Vulcan child, and of course there is glorious mutual pining. The characterizations are fantastic, and the build is really great. Very satisfying read.
