The [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom is looking a little sparse for the next few months, so I figured I'd do a quick pimp in the hopes of convincing some of you to sign up!

For those who don't know, [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom is a Harry Potter reccing community. Basically you sign up for a month and pairing type (such as H/D, Next Gen, or fics with Charlie as part of the Main Pairing), and commit to reccing 4 fics and/or pieces of art over the course of the month. It's an AWESOME resource when you become obsessed with a new pairing, and spreading the love around is always a great thing. It looks complicated, but I promise you, it really isn't.

Come fly the [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom!

How to Participate (In 6 Easy Steps!!)

  • Read the RULES. Essentially what you need to know is: 4 recs per month, only 2 of these can have been previously recced on the comm, don't rec more than 2 times in one day.

  • Check the BIG QUEUE to see what "brooms" already have a rider for the Month. For example, for January you can see [livejournal.com profile] gracerene next to the H/D broom. :D

  • Go to the SIGN-UP POST and leave a comment with the month and broom you'd like to claim. Feel free to claim multiple months at a time if you're so inclined.

  • Think about what you want rec. Before making a final decision, make sure you look at the DATABASE OF PAST RECS. Only two of your recs can be on this list. I generally just hit CTRL + F and then search for the name/author of what I'd like to rec to see if it's on this list. Mostly it's older stuff, so if you want to rec newer stuff, you're likely in the clear!

  • Grab the POSTING TEMPLATE for the medium you are reccing for (the templates are under spoiler cuts), and fill out the relevant fields.

  • Post to the [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom community during the month you signed up for! I usually do all of my recs at the beginning of the month and then schedule them to post over the next few weeks so I don't forget. :)

How easy is that?!?

Recs have been really down this past year, which is a total bummer, because recs are a wonderful way to find really great stuff. Reccing is a wonderful way to show authors and artists how much you loved their work, and it really doesn't take that long at all--just think of all the time and effort authors and artist put into creating their works for you to enjoy!

And if you have any questions, feel free to poke me with them. I've been reccing there for over 3 years now, so I'm fairly familiar with the format. :D

Doing a quick pimp of one of my favorite communities! Basically you sign up for a month and an open pairing or pairing type (such as H/D, Next Gen, or fics with Charlie as part of the Main Pairing), and commit to reccing 4 fics and/or pieces of art over the course of the month. It's an AWESOME resource when you become obsessed with a new pairing, and spreading the rec love around is always a great thing. It looks complicated, but I promise you, it really isn't.

I highly recommend you consider signing up for a month or two. Reccing is such a great way to contribute to and bolster our community, and the more reccers there are, the greater diversity there is in the type of things being recced. I know several of you rec on your personal journals, but I'd really urge you to consider reccing here as well, as reccing on the comm means that your recs may reach a wider audience than recs on your personal journal--yay! Not to mention, speaking from personal experience, seeing a rec of my work seriously makes my day, every time. <3

So, even if you don't rec on a regular basis, I really urge you to give this comm a try!

And if you have any questions, feel free to poke me with them. I've been reccing there just about 3 now, so I'm fairly familiar with the format. :D

Day 8

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

Done!

Day 9

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I pretty much already did this on my New Year's Resolutions post. F-locked, since there are personal goals as well.

Day 10

In your own space, post a rec for fannish and/or creative resources and spaces.

[livejournal.com profile] crack_broom: Super awesome HP reccing community. Each month, people sign up to rec different pairings/categories, and then they post four recs throughout the month. It's an awesome resource for people wanting to get into new pairings and a great place to share the love for your favorite fanworks.

Just a quick fly-by pimp (LOL, see what I did there?) for the awesome [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom reccing community! Almost all of their brooms are free in January, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by and seeing if you can sign up! January is the perfect time to rec some of your favorites from the recent holiday fests, and I believe that the brooms for Snarry, Drarry, and Wolfstar are all still open, along with quite a few other rare pair brooms. I'd love to see some more recs on my friends feed! <3

[livejournal.com profile] crack_broom once again needs fliers, specifically for October. I'm reccing Harry/Sirius in one of the Featured Pairing slots, but almost all of the other brooms are available, including: Harry/Draco, Harry/Snape, Next-Gen, Cross-Gen, and the Featured Pairing and Character brooms. You can see the complete list available for October here. I'm also hoping excited that [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore is definitely going to be hosting Rectober again next month (info on last year's fest here), so this would be the perfect way to participate!

I'm just in love with this community and it is such an amazing resource, especially if you want to branch into new pairings.

[livejournal.com profile] crack_broom once again needs fliers, specifically for April, but there are lots of openings for the rest of the year. This community is basically the coolest thing ever and I have already signed up for different pairings through May! If I could sign up for multiple slots per month I totally would, and I already have plans to sign up for the rest of the year This is an especially great resource if you are curious about branching into other pairings and don't really know where to start, or if you become obsessed with a new pairing and want some great fic recommendations! Anyways, they need people to sign up for the various pairings so if you have any fics you think are must-reads (especially from recent fests....) then you should definitely go and sign up! Here is a list of brooms currently open for APRIL, and if you're too busy April, or the broom you want is already taken, you should definitely sign up to rec for other months. It is a ton of fun, I promise! :)

I just discovered [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom last week due to [livejournal.com profile] susannah_wilde recommending the community for Day 2 of the Snowflake Challenge. It is basically the coolest thing ever and I have already signed up for 3 months! Since recs are kind of my one meager contribution to fandom, I'm all kinds of excited for reccing things and already have a bunch of possibilities lined up! This is an especially great resource if you are curious about branching into other pairings and don't really know where to start, or if you become obsessed with a new pairing and want some great fic recommendations! :) Anyways, they need people to sign up for the various pairings for the rest of the year, so if you have any fics you think are must-reads(especially from recent fests....) then you should definitely go and sign up!
