The word holocaust originates from the two Greek words hólos (whole) and kaustós (burnt). It used to refer to a religious sacrifice whereby an animal carcass is completely consumed by fire (burnt offering).

I am sure the encyclopedia covers the reasons that led to the Holocaust but discussing these reasons is even more important. some of them include the 1917-21 (Jewish) Russian revolution which ended up killing around 15 million because they were Christian . the Revolution targeted the Russian Church and the people.

Bela Kun was a Russian Jew who took control the Hungarian government . it was the only communist power to emerge out of the Russian revolution and control a European state that early in the century. In the 19 months of that government 65 thousand Christians were killed in neighboring nations. The rise of Cultural Marxism almost exclusively led by Jewish intellectuals and the backlash against it in the 1930s.

It sent shockwaves across Europe that resulted in the fascist revolutions of the 1920s and 30’s. They were pro Christian and mostly Catholic movements and governments. They were all anti Communist. The 1930s Spanish civil war is a case example where the defenders to Franco were Catholic and communist partisans against Franco were supported by Stalin. Outside of government backing ,the US supported the Lincoln Brigade.

The “Stab in the back” as Germany called it that led to its defeat in World war One. The nationwide protests in Germany that crippled its war effort was led by Jewish leaders in the protest and in the media. In my youth, in England, the word “holocaust� always meant an Ancient Greek burnt offering; the phrase “Final Solution to the Jewish Question� was always used (with implicit irony!) to refer to the events of WWII.

The switch to using “The Holocaustâ€� gave a religious connotation to the deaths. If Jews wish to so regard it that is their privilege, but it’s highly inappropriate for those of us who are not Jewish.

This book is a difficult read but not for the reason you think. I tried no less than four EPUB-PDF converters, including the recommended Calibre program, but these all failed to convert it to a PDF file. One of them has buggered up my computer, which is now running like a shitbox.

However you can read it as an EPUB in the Calibre program. The entry on ‘Zyklon-B introduction devices’ is quite interesting as Rudolph suggests that the most rational method of introducing such a product (in Crematoria II & III) would be to insert it into the morgue/cellar/gas chamber’s ventilation system. I have not read this before but it makes extreme logical sense.

The small cutouts in the roof for the lowering of wire baskets/whatever containing the outgassing Zyklon pellets into the rooms below would have been a very dumb way of introducing the cyanide pesticide. The existence of the holes in the remaining roof slab is hotly contested, with the orthodox/believers insisting that the remains of the holes are there, with the revisionists/denialists insisting they are not. You be the judge.

Rudolf is correct here in my opinion. No sane German exterminationist would hack holes in the heavy concrete roof if all they needed to do was install a port into one of the ventilation ducts. Also he suggests commonly available producer gas (30% carbon monoxide) units could have been installed here to do the same job instead of using the more expensive Zyklon product. Makes a lot of sense to me.

There are aerial photos of the roofs/rooves of the morgues/extermination cellars taken by US reconnaissance planes but these were apparently doctored fairly early on to show fake Zyklon introduction chutes, so what the originals showed is no longer known apparently.

In that sense, the Soviet leadership was correct in viewing Poland as a proxy of England and France, because it had become a belligerent at the pleasure of France and England, when it forced Lithuania to capitulate, and invaded Czechoslovakia. It also ordered full mobilization of its military to invade Germany. Poland wasn’t the “victim” it has been made out to be. Of course, the Soviets had their own designs on Europe.

Have you read “1939: The war that had many fathers” from Gerd Schultze-Rhonhof? He covers the last days before the outbreak of WW2 in more than 100 pages.
He makes it painstakingly clear, that France (and mostly Britain) encouraged Poland to act in the way it did by promising the leaders of that country to attack Germany “after a couple days” (Britain) and “with the majority of our troops” (France) and both countries left Poland in the lurch afterwards.
Reading those pages, I felt for Poland, but they also brought it on themselves.

I have learnt a fascinating tidbit from Udo Walendy a couple days ago:
According to French/British/Soviet government files, the three countries made the following pact a couple of months before the outbreak of WW2, when it still seemed possible that Poland and Germany could come to a negotiated solution:

The three countries guaranteed each other that they would “protect the independance” of the Eastern European countries (primarily Poland) against Germany. This meant that even in the case that Germany NEGOTIATED A TREATY with an Eastern European country (without any duress whatsoever), and one of the three countries thought that this treaty undermined the independance of that said Eastern European country, then in the case that the Soviet Union invaded this Eastern European country “to restore its independance”, France and Britain committed themselves to invading Germany.

In other words: France and Britain committed themselves to “helping” Poland after a Soviet invasion by declaring war and attacking Germany. You cannot make this stuff up.
