According to an American entrepreneur, Jim Rohn, “without a sense of urgency, desire

loses its value.” This quotation means that you will lose the desire and never get what you want if
you have a dream but do not act with the urgency, responsibility, and accountability necessary to
fulfill it. Imagine dreaming to become a successful civil engineer but never completing your tasks
on time, not setting your priorities right, and being a go-with-the-flow person. Do you think you
can fulfill this dream of yours without a sense of urgency? I do not think so. You constantly
perceive things as urgent and desire to address them as soon as possible if you have a feeling of
urgency. Someone with a sense of urgency takes action as quickly as possible and does not wait
for things to happen before doing so. This attitude is what Malayan Colleges Laguna hopes their
staff and students should have. As a Malayan or Mapuan student, one thing I practice to make sure
I finish my tasks on time or as quickly as possible is to frequently tell myself that I cannot use any
social media apps and eat snacks. That way, whenever I feel hungry or browse my social media, I
get motivated and feel a sense of urgency, and the task gets done quickly. I understand how wrong
it is to endure hunger, but this technique helps me manage my time. As an aspiring civil engineer,
developing this behavior would help me improve my problem-solving skills. I can recognize
possible problems quickly when I have a strong feeling of urgency, which gives me more time to
come up with solutions. Creating a good reputation in my sector requires being able to offer
material quickly and reply to clients promptly.

On the other hand, discipline is one of the most crucial personality qualities in everyone's
life. It alludes to guidelines you must follow when engaging in any work or activity. It is a strategy
for being honest, diligent, inspired, and motivated throughout any challenges and tasks given to
you. Self-discipline helps you focus on your goals and control how you respond to every
circumstance. This behavior gets stronger the more you exercise it, and low self-esteem may result
from a lack of self-discipline. Since discipline is related to rules and policies, it also helps preserve
social order and peace. A school setting is an example of this. All universities have protocols that
would help and show students how to act appropriately. If disobeyed, there will be consequences.
School discipline addresses the requirements of the whole institution, each classroom, and each
student through extensive prevention, focused intervention, and the development of self-discipline.
Discipline gives people the guidelines they need to lead productive lives. When you live a
disciplined life, you may sacrifice little things now for a better life afterward. Discipline produces
habits, which produce routines, which transform your daily routine.

Sense of urgency and discipline are both behaviors that should be developed and practiced.
These personality traits are essential in our personal and professional life. Many rules, whether in
work or school settings, help form a sense of urgency. An example scenario is at schools where
we usually have rules for late students. Some classes would not allow you to attend once you are
late, as a consequence. This act would make students obey the regulations, which is a way of
disciplining them and, at the same time, developing their sense of urgency to be more punctual.
Another one is the deadlines and due dates. These policies motivate students to do their tasks as
soon as possible because some professors do not accept late submissions to discipline their
students. Discipline and a sense of urgency make a person confident. Always remember that it is
better to have a sense of urgency and discipline today than to have a sense of regret tomorrow.
