- ―Matt Murdock to Paul Lantom
Revelations is the ninth episode of the third season of the television series Daredevil.
Synopsis[]
Matt's already shaky world tilts when he learns a shocking truth. Karen runs for her life. Nadeem discovers how deep Fisk's influence goes.
Plot[]
Matt Murdock finds Paul Lantom at a bar and asks him if he knew that Maggie Grace was his mother, to which he says that even when he wanted to tell Murdock the truth, he could not. Murdock is angered at both Lantom and Grace who let him believe that he was all alone and kept him in the dark all those years. Lantom tells him how Grace once met Jack Murdock at a boxing match and the two fell in love, but after Murdock was born, she suffered from a postpartum depression, so she returned to the church with Lantom. Murdock is deeply disappointed that Lantom has been lying to him all along and let him suffer, despite all their talks about truth, shaming Lantom before walking away.
Ray Nadeem meets with Winn and Tammy Hattley at the latter's house, where they conduct an interview on the behalf of the OCR. Nadeem goes on record to say that Wilson Fisk is involved in a criminal conspiracy and a corruption of the FBI agents. He also says that Benjamin Poindexter was responsible for the New York Bulletin killings and reveals a gunshot wound that he got from Poindexter while investigating him. Nadeem implores Winn to launch an internal investigation into Poindexter and takes full responsibility, turning in his badge and handgun. Suddenly, Hattley shoots Winn from Nadeem's gun and Felix Manning makes it look like that Nadeem did it, making him realize that Hattley has been working for Fisk and now he does too.
Now that Fisk is aware that she killed James Wesley, Karen Page prepares to run from New York City, while Foggy Nelson tries to calm her down. Nelson suggests that instead of running she should make herself public so Fisk could not get to her, but Page does not view it as an option, considering what she did. Page also blames herself for betraying Murdock as because of her, Fisk is certain that he is Daredevil, but Nelson insists that she is jumping to conclusions. Page is still adamant that she must run and Nelson gives her some cash to help her, before Page bids him farewell.
Lantom approaches Grace at Clinton Church and tells her that Murdock now knows the truth, which horrifies her. She runs off to the basement where Murdock lives and finds it empty, breaking into tears now that she lost her son again. Meanwhile, Murdock takes shelter at an abandoned Fogwell's Gym, speaking to a mental manifestation of his father who remarks that now Murdock knows everything. Murdock replies that he only knows what he needs to, saying that it does not change a thing.
Back at his house, Nadeem sees Poindexter with his wife and son, which immediately concerns him. The two talk in private and Poindexter makes it clear that he is not happy at Nadeem and his recent actions but remarks that Fisk needs him alive. He adds that Fisk wants Nadeem to give him Daredevil and although Nadeem says that he does not know anything about him, Poindexter does not believe that. Poindexter then warns Nadeem about his wound and gets him to change his shirt, so his family would not suspect anything.
Speaking to Marci Stahl, Nelson says that he will not run away from fighting despite what Page and Murdock decided for themselves and Stahl says that he is now the talk of the town. She shows him a video recording of his speech at Hell's Kitchen Club which went viral and got him a support from the New York City Police Department, while Blake Tower failed to respond. She says that Nelson practically branded him as pro-Fisk candidate, so now he has a real shot at winning the the District Attorney election and bring Fisk down.
Murdock receives a call from Nadeem who tells him that Fisk is planning to make a move, promising to get specifics later. While speaking to "Jack", Murdock expresses his disappointment in both him and Grace who kept him in the dark, while also blaming Jack for not going down in a fight and getting himself killed, leaving Murdock alone. "Jack" argues that he did not do it out of ego but because he had a code and a pride in himself as a fighter, while Murdock is practically doing the same thing as Daredevil. Murdock disagrees and claims that he is no longer letting anyone else suffer because of him, preparing to take Fisk's life for good this time.
Grace gets approached by Page and immediately tells her that Murdock is gone and it is possible that he will never return, now that he knows that Grace is his mother. Page is surprised to hear that, and Grace admits that when she had her postpatrum depression, she was a danger to young Murdock, and believed that she commited a sin in the eyes of God. She thought that Murdock is better off not know about her and when he was back, she could atone for her sins, but now it was too late and she lost him. Page then admits that Fisk knows about Murdock because of her and she has to run, to which Grace offers her to hide at the church for now. Although Page is worried that she might bring danger to the church, Grace insists that she can help her, as she wanted to do something for her and Murdock.
Nelson and his family watch the video of his speech and as they congratulate him on his newfound fame, he suddenly gets approached by Theo Nelson. Theo says that Nelson must take back everything he said and apologize, but Nelson is determined to exploit his new chance and expose everything about Fisk. However, Theo then tells him that Nelson's Meats recently had a lot of financial problems and was approached by Red Lion National Bank, which Nelson recongizes to be a front for Fisk. The bank's reprentatives helped the Nelsons improve their situation and the shop was back in business, but Theo recently received a call from Manning who warned him that unless he convinces Nelson, he and their parents would be charged for commiting a fraud.
Hattley announces to Nadeem and other agents that Poindexter is officially reinstated in his position, and he thanks everyone for support, adding that he will pay Nadeem back for everything he did. Hattley then brings Nadeem to the conference room with other agents on Fisk's payroll and Nadeem is horrified to see how deep Fisk's corruption of the FBI goes. Arinori and Poindexter then warn Nadeem that they do not use Fisk's real name, as he instructed them to refer to him only as "Kingpin". Hattley then informs them of Kingpin's orders to apprehend several prominent crime bosses around the city, including Everett Starr and Rosalie Carbone.
With all targets under their custody, the agents arrive at Presidential Hotel, where Hattley tells Nadeem that she killed Winn to save him. She then reveals that Kingpin had Nadeem in his sights for more than a year, manipulating his financial situation to make him desperate and play into Kingpin's plans. Nadeem insists that she still could do anything besides submitting, but Hattley then admits that Kingpin had one of her children killed, forcing her to comply with his orders to save her daughter. They then meet with Kingpin, who explicitly orders Nadeem to kneel down and remove his Ankle Monitor, before he gets escorted out of the hotel.
With Fisk and Poindexter with him, Nadeem contacts Daredevil and tells him that Fisk is out meeting with several crime bosses and texts him the address. Kingpin notes that although Daredevil would easily spot a trap, he has no choice but to come for him, ordering Poindexter to be ready. He ignores "Jack" who tries to warn him and when Kingpin manifests in his mind to taunt him, Murdock lashes out and "kills" him, before heading out. At the restaurant, Kingpin presents himself to the crime bosses that were gathered by the FBI agents, while Murdock ignores Nadeem's text and goes to the hotel instead. Kingpin offers the crime bosses a protection from federal custody in exchange for the portion of their profits.
Starr loudly expresses his lack of interest and tries to walk out, but gets killed by Poindexter in Daredevil's Suit, so Kingpin announces that the tax for others will be increased due to Starr's death. Kingpin then notices that Daredevil did not show up and orders the agents to get back, and although Poindexter accuses Nadeem for tipping the vigilante, Nadeem dissmisses him. Daredevil makes his way to Kingpin's suite and finds his secret room with Shelby trapped inside and forced to work at computers. She is relieved to hear that Daredevil came to kill Fisk, but he then sees the FBI agents locating Page at the church and keeping the police out of the location. He asks Shelby what could Kingpin want from her and she informs him that he wants Page killed, to Daredevil's horror.
