Hammer arrested by Benjamin Poindexter
John Hammer was working with his gang inside their garage before it was stormed by the FBI, led by Benjamin Poindexter. While all of his subordinates were arrested, Hammer had refused to surrender and attempted to escape. However, Hammer's escape attempt had been prevented by Poindexter, who had grabbed a wrench and threw it at Hammer, hitting him onto the head. Hammer fell onto the ground and Poindexter also kicked him in the side before he was arrested, much to the horror of Ray Nadeem, who watched Hammer's brutal arrest, as Poindexter dragged Hammer past Nadeem and into their cars.
Hammer brought to a criminal boss meeting
FBI brought Hammer inside the Red Fish Blue Restaurant, along with various other criminals. While Nadeem, Arinori, and Johnson were all watching them, Hammer asked agents what are they waiting for. The agents ignored these questions and Rosalie Carbone noted that they took them without any press attention and had brought them into the restaurant instead of their Headquarters what means that FBI needs something from them. At that moment, Wilson Fisk revealed himself in front of criminal bosses, much to the great surprise of Hammer as he then watched Fisk calmly sitting down with the rest of them.
Hammer listens to Wilson Fisk's offer to him
Fisk offered them his protection from the federal prosecution, only for his offer to be met with skepticism, as Hammer then commented that is likely a sting operation. Carbone then asked Fisk about the cost of his offer what he replied that they need to pay him twenty percent of their profits. Everett Starr just refused to believe to Fisk's offer as he attempted to leave, before Starr was killed by the man in Daredevil's Suit. Fisk then simply stated that the tax was increased to twenty-five percent since this moment. Since they were all too fearful to refuse it, Hammer and other bosses reluctantly accepted Fisk's condition.[1]

Hammer was contacted by Wilson Fisk, as he coerced him to attend his wedding with Vanessa Marianna, as a way of proving their loyalty and respect to him. Once they had arrived outside of the Presidential Hotel, Hammer had met with Rosalie Carbone and Latimer Zyl, who expressed his discontent of Fisk who forced all of them to submit to his leadership. Hammer endorsed his discontent while Carbone handed him the glass of champagne, noting that he better to accept it and enjoy the event, regardless of those circumstances around them being summoned.[2]

- Expert Tactician: Hammer's tactical skills allowed him to become a prominent criminal figure in New York. In order to save his life, Hammer agreed to hand over twenty percent of his assets to Wilson Fisk in exchange for portection from the FBI.

- Red Fish Blue Restaurant: When the corrupt FBI brought Hammer inside the Red Fish Blue Restaurant, he and other various criminals met the Kingpin. Hammer and the other criminals were offered protection from the federal prosecution, leading him and the rest accept it under the fear that they might get killed if they did not.
- Presidential Hotel: Hammer was forced to attend the wedding of Wilson Fisk and Vanessa Marianna at the Presidential Hotel, which he did not appreciate. As Hammer complained about the situation, Rosalie Carbone distracted him with champaign.
