Marvel's The Punisher, or simply The Punisher, is a television series based on the Marvel Comics vigilante and antihero of the same name. The series is a spin-off of Daredevil. It is the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series was produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, and originally released on Netflix.

The first season was released on November 17, 2017. The second and final season was released on January 18, 2019.

On February 11, 2022, it was reported that the series would be leaving Netflix on March 1.[1] It was later announced that the series would be moved to Disney+ on March 16.[2]

Season One[]

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the deaths of his family, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York's criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as the Punisher, and legally dead, he must discover the truth about injustices and make uneasy alliances, in order to finally end the war that has controlled his life for too long.

Season Two[]

Former Marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl. As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace life as the Punisher.

On January 16, 2016, it was reported that a Daredevil spinoff series centered on Punisher was in development for Netflix with Jon Bernthal set to reprise his role as the title character in the series.[3]

On April 29, 2016, it was officially announced that the series was in development. It was also announced that Steve Lightfoot would serve as executive producer and showrunner of the series.[4]

On October 3, 2016, it was reported that the series had begun production under the working title "Crime".[5][6]

In October 2017, it was announced that following the 2017 Las Vegas Strip shooting, the series' promotional panel at New York Comic Con[7] and event at Cirque d'hiver[8] were canceled. It was also reported that the series' release date had been postponed.[9]

On February 18, 2019, Netflix announced that the series had been canceled after two seasons.[10]

On February 17, 2019, Jeph Loeb wrote a letter to the fans of the canceled Marvel Netflix series.[11]
