- "If there's anything that can redeem a lost soul, love would have to top the list."
"Oh, come on. Even a monster like Fisk?"
"You're talking to a nun, kiddo. Love and redemption are pretty much our sales pitch." - ―Maggie Grace and Matt Murdock
No Good Deed is the third episode of the third season of the television series Daredevil.
Synopsis[]
As Fisk moves into swanky new digs amid a public outcry, Matt wrestles with how far he's ready to go to right this wrong. Dex's aim comes into focus.
Plot[]
Suffering heavy casualties in an Albanian Syndicate attack, the FBI manages to bring Wilson Fisk to Presidential Hotel where he would be serving his house arrest. Ray Nadeem informs that he would be under constant FBI surveillance and is not allowed contact with anyone outside, except for his lawyers. Fisk orders Benjamin Donovan and Nicholas Lee to make sure that Vanessa Marianna is safe, but they inform him that she is currently missing.
Karen Page visits Mitchell Ellison and his family for a dinner, while he tries to set her up with his nephew, but she says that she is not ready. Suddenly, they both receive news that Fisk has been released from Ryker's Island, much to their distress. Ellison immediately tells Page that she would not be working on that story, claiming that it would be a conflict of interest and she would be biased while covering it. Page insists that she cannot stay out, having history with Fisk and knowing him better than anyone at New York Bulletin, but Ellison refuses to budge.
Foggy Nelson wakes up from a nightmare of seeing Matt Murdock dead, and Marci Stahl comforts him, telling him that what happened to Murdock was not his fault. Nelson contemplates that even though he succeeded in life, he still cannot stop thinking about his friend being lost to him. Stahl suggests him to talk to someone but Nelson says that it would not bring Murdock back anyway. As he excuses himself, he is horrified by seeing the news of Fisk being released.
Murdock comes to the hotel, while a group of protesters gathers around the hotel, demanding to put Fisk back to jail. A mental image of Fisk in his mind taunts Murdock, saying that God is angry with Murdock and Fisk's release was his divine punishment. Murdock notices Page coming to the hotel and "Fisk" says that Murdock will get her too sooner or later, just like with his father, Stick, and Elektra. Page approaches Nadeem and asks him about Fisk's release and how could he be afforded such luxury after all the crimes he commited. Nadeem does not take her accusations well and tells her that if she wants to write about something, she can write about FBI agents who died last night.
Murdock sneaks inside the hotel, avoiding FBI agents, and "Fisk" in his mind is questioning what is he prepared to do now that he is inside. He is convinced that Fisk is manipulating the FBI into protecting him, while "Fisk" says that he could have changed and the information he provides saves lives, while mocking Murdock that he became more valuable to New York City that Murdock ever could.
Fisk spends time in his penthouse, while Benjamin Poindexter and J. Lim monitor him and talk about the agents who lost their lives protecting him. Benjamin Donovan informs Fisk that they reached out to Felix Manning and confirmed that Marianna is safe, being relocated every 72 hours to avoid being tracked. Fisk, however, is displeased that Manning hid her in Spain, as Europe was too dangerous due to extradition risk, but Donovan says that she insisted due to her love of arts. Fisk says that the Albanians might get her in Europe and orders the lawyers to contact Manning and relocate her regardless.
Nelson comes to see Blake Tower and discuss Fisk's release, while he is preparing for his District Attorney re-election campaign. Nelson offers Tower his help with overturning Fisk's deal with the FBI, but Tower says that he already objected on all possible grounds but nothing worked. Although Nelson insists that they could at least get Fisk back to prison while they build a case against him, Tower claims that Fisk made a deal with federal government, so there was nothing they could do. Nelson accuses Tower that he simply did not want to squander his chances to get re-elected, while refusing to speak up for Fisk's victims, like Elena Cardenas, and Tower demands him to leave immediately.
Murdock sits at the bar and listens to FBI agents, while "Fisk" says that no prison can hold him and the only way to stop him is to take his life, something that Murdock cannot do. Murdock overhears Donovan passing by on his way to the penthouse and tries to follow him, but Poindexter blocks his way and says that he cannot let Murdock through without seeing his room key. Murdock tries to trick Poindexter and get through him, but retreats, noticing that Poindexter was reaching to his gun.
Nadeem goes to Riverbank Medical Center and consoles the families of agents who lost their lives during a motorcade attack. Nadeem blames himself as he was the one who insisted on using Fisk, but Tammy Hattley says that he is not at fault and she was the one who approved the transfer. Hattley reminds him that the their priority is to save people and countless lives can be saved because of his deal with Fisk. Nadeem than sees Seema arriving at the hospital and embraces her husband, glad that he is unharmed.
As Lim brings him his dinner, Fisk speaks to Poindexter on guard duty, offering his condolences for his colleagues that dies while protecting him. Poindexter does not want to talk to him, but Fisk goes on and says that he owes a debt to those agents and Poindexter specifically, commenting on his extraordinary marksman skills. Poindexter gets fed up with Fisk and leaves, taking his plate with him, before attending a meeting with Myman. He comments that Poindexter used lethal force against suspects during the attack and should be put on an administrative leave, which upsets Poindexter, as he has to justify protecting himself. Myman tries to level with Poindexter and get him to open up about his mental state, and Poindexter tells him about Julie Barnes, a woman who means a lot to him, so Myman clears him for duty.
Daredevil ambushes Donovan at a parking lot, demanding him to tell about Fisk and why he sold the Albanians to the FBI, while Donovan tries to deny knowing anything. Daredevil forces him to talk and he eventually admits that Fisk hated prison and wanted out, claiming that it was all about Marianna. Hearing the FBI agents coming to a parking lot, Donovan calls for help and Daredevil tries to evade the agents and sneak out unnoticed. He eventually gets noticed and engages in an altercation with the agents, but briefly loses his restraint and beats one of them down way too much. "Fisk" taunts Daredevil more, saying that he cannot do anything to him with the FBI on his side, and he is going to kill everyone he cares for.
Ellison chides Page for ignoring what he said and pursuing Fisk's story, but Page claims that she was there to work on the Kazemi story instead. Page informs him that Presidential Hotel used to be owned by Rostam Kazemi but she suspects that Fisk now owns it, as she tracked the trail of companies that purchased it and found out that all of them were represented in the United States by Donovan and Partners. She says that Fisk organized an attack on Kazemi when he tried to buy the hotel back, and even though Ellison is impressed by her work, he refuses to let her work on the story. He insists that if people see her name in the story, Bulletin might be compromised due to her personal bias, but Page cannot let it go and says that she does not care about credit, as long as she gets to expose Fisk.
Murdock returns to Clinton Church and asks Maggie Grace if she believed that people can change, and while she believed so, he was not so sure. Grace asks if Murdock truly believed that God sent Fisk to spite him, but he admits that it would be too narcistic to think so. He says that Fisk helps the FBI and claims to have changed because of the woman in his life, and Grace suggests that if there was anything that can redeem even a monster like Fisk, it was love. Murdock admits that he does not know what to do about Fisk and Grace warns him not to become a monster himself in his pursuit.
Poindexter drives to a pizza parlor and stalks Barnes from a distance, eating a slice of pizza with her and pretending that they are together.
Nelson drinks at a bar, angrily throwing out Tower's re-election pamphlets, frustrated at his inaction with Fisk's release. He suddenly sees Murdock approaching him and although not believing at first, he goes to hug him, happy that his friend is back. Murdock then tells Nelson that he is not actually back and decided to abandon his life as Matt Murdock for good, only coming to warn him and Page to stay away from Fisk and not endanger themselves. Nelson is in disbelief that Murdock was gone for so long and came back only to push him away, but Murdock says that he made a mistake by becoming his friend, as it put him in danger. Nelson is deeply upset at Murdock who ignores him and leaves, unaware that Murdock stole his wallet with his Bar Association ID.
Donovan comes to see Fisk at the penthouse and informs him of what happened at a parking lot, as Fisk is now aware that Daredevil is back.

Trivia[]
- Daredevil hallucinates Kingpin saying "Let the Devil out", mirroring as he previously described his father in Into the Ring: "And you'd see it sometimes... in the ring. His eyes would go dead... and he'd start walking forward real slow... hands at his sides, like he wasn't afraid of anything. And the other guy, he'd see that look, and he'd try to get away from him. Nah. My dad, he'd catch him and... trap him in the corner. Let the devil out." The phrase was used in promotional videos for the third season.
