A lot is said about how this series ages with its audience, and all of it is correct. The series’ depiction of the wizarding world’s gradual descent into fascism is incredibly effective, which makes me so so grateful that these movies preceded Brexit/2016 election. Can’t even think about it in fact, it’s too cringe-y to imagine.
As far as the seriousness goes DH the book manages to keep things a little silly, DH the movie leans all…
As you can see in my bio, my star rating philosophy is very simple. I judge a film both on its quality and my own enjoyment.
Mank is a 4.5 on the former, but a 2 on the latter, so here we are, stuck in the middle but shading towards the craftmanship, which is exceptional. The meat of the story unfortunately is not comparable to Fincher’s prior work, of which I’ve loved every film without Edward Norton and a 3…
I’ve struggled a bit with this series now that Rowling has shown herself to be exactly the type of bigot she’s portrayed the villains of this series to be. I’ve thought: can I go back to this and not feel guilty or grossed out?
Fall/Winter has usually been the time I revisit these stories, and right now I find myself in need of something comforting and familiar in…
Uhhhh, ok. If your goal was to make a film in which everyone has a bad time, congratulations!!
Devil All The Time is a story of evil preachers, violence of all kinds and murder, serving the main theme that things are BLEAK in the flyover states.
For those reasons, I spent much of the runtime asking why this needs to exist. The answer appears to be giving Robert Pattinson another wild supporting role in an ok he can do…
In prep for daddy’s eventual 11th film, as well as a farewell to my beloved apartment in Manhattan, I came into this watch ready to cry. I did.
I’m not going to argue that this is Nolan’s tightest film, or even his best, but I will die on the hill that to date, it is the movie that best encompasses his skills as a storyteller. And it’s just great to see him make a movie as good…
Things really fell into place with this latest viewing of Godfather: Part II. Yes, even the flashbacks I was meh on before have grown on me. Exponentially in fact.
Literally the only fault I can find is the cut between the abortion scene and Vito arriving back in his hometown. It’s awkward to say the least.
Everything else is simply some of the best filmmaking we’ve ever seen. This movie expands the scope of…
This lost me when there was a gag about Harley voting for Bernie. Not in a bad way, I just couldn't focus on anything for more than a couple minutes because I kept wondering... Trump exists in this universe? Is there a #YangGang in Gotham City? Has anyone straight up murdered Don Jr.? If not, why?
Anyhoo, Birds of Prey ain't for me. It'll be for a lot of people but ol' Mason ain't one of them.…
The first thought I had after leaving the theater to see this for the first time was that I had to go again.
And spoiler alert for my top 10 of the year, it’s the highest placing movie I had only seen once before now, so now that they’re on even footing, figuring out how to order my top 4 will keep me awake at night. Worth it tho!
I loved Little Women even more the second time. Gerwig’s screenplay…
I’ll say this of Wonder Woman 1984: Chris Nolan (and many others before) said in a recent interview that the only time he’d ever felt like he’d wasted time at a movie is when he didn’t feel like the filmmakers thought it was the best movie ever.
In that sense, I did not feel like I wasted my time watching Wonder Woman 1984.
The last act, with so many other things happening, is a plea to everyone to be better versions…
