Thor: Ragnarok 2017
The following transcript is taken from a recent interview between Mr. Merritt and Marvel Cinematic Universe Producer Kevin Feige.
MM: Hi Kevin, thanks for making the time to chat.
KF: No problem, bro. We're 9 months into filming Infinity War so this car basically drives itself haha.
MM: Fantastic. So, I just saw Thor: Ragnarok...
KF: And you loved it?
MM: I wouldn't say that.
KF: You thought it was totally awesome and a really fun time?
MM: Well, I.....…

To Kill a Mockingbird 1962
A truly beautiful movie. We need more people like Atticus Finch in the world.

The Florida Project 2017
I don't care how good a movie is, if there are screaming children: I. WILL. HATE. IT.
Sean Baker does a good job capturing the feeling of this particular time and place, but building it around the most aggravating character in the movie (Halley) instead of the most interesting (Bobby) was a missed opportunity.
I will give the movie some credit for how it rolled out its plot. It's the kind of movie that seems uneventful while you're in the…

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016
So. Here we are. 2016's superduper hero movies have come and gone. And I've seen them all. Now, I can say with certainty that somehow, some way, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is the best of them all.
Yes. The best.
While Civil War blows more and more air into an air-balloon gone wild and spoonfeeds it's audience an argument about world politics, Batman V. Superman does the opposite. It pops the balloon before it's finished expanding and doesn't…

The Dark Knight 2008
Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos.
9 years later, The Dark Knight doesn't just stand alone as the best of its kind, it's a snapshot of post-9/11 paranoia and a state of fear that has engulfed American society underneath a "dark cloud".
Batman is the greatest superhero because he is the only one who can be the focal point of a movie like this without coming off as preachy or obvious. The diversity and depth of the characters…

Batman 1989
Criticisms people make about this movie that I hate.
Jack Nicholson plays himself, not The Joker.
Wow, what's it like being a close, personal friend of Jack? Tell me all about him.
This is a Joker movie with Batman.
Incorrect. Both get backstories, are developed, albeit Bruce in a more subtle way, and have a reason to interact with each other.
It's dated.
And something like Back to the Future, Jurassic Park or Spider Man isn't? Criticizing something for being dated is…

The Godfather 1972
Seeing one of my all time favorite movies on the big screen in my favorite city in the world is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Lady Bird 2017
When I go to the cinema 60+ times a year, I’m partly doing it to join in on the overall film conversation and to follow the careers of my favorite directors or stories.
But the biggest reason I go is because I’m chasing a feeling. It’s a feeling I get when I hear a certain melody, meet a certain person or in the case of Lady Bird, see a certain movie. I don’t know how to describe the feeling other than…

Last Flag Flying 2017
Linklater made my favorite movie of 2016, so you better believe I was hyped for this one. Hyped going in, morose coming out.
Linklater's consistently fabulous dialogue, characterization, and invisible (in the best way possible) direction is as present as ever in this heartbreaking story of a man who's never been able to catch a break.
It made me very sad and want to give Steve Carell the biggest hug ever.
