Early Life[]
Not much had been revealed of Luna's early life prior to her becoming an employee of the Adventurer Guild's Axel branch, though she was known to have remained as a careerwoman long after other female colleagues of her age had retired into marriage, leaving her as the chief receptionist even after passing marriageable age.[1]
Journey to Axel Arc[]
Luna was one day approached at the Guild by two peculiar individuals, who claimed to have come from a faraway land and wished to sign up as adventurers, despite them initially not even having the money to pay for the registration. Subsequent to them managing to pay the fee, Luna explained to them how the system with the Adventurer Cards worked. She proceeded to have their stats scanned by the card-generating magic item, and found the young man named Kazuma Satou to be averaged all over except for high Intelligence and exceptional Luck, which only qualified him to become an Adventurer. But when scanning Aqua, his blue-haired companion possessing the beauty of a goddess, her stats being all exceptional except for low Intelligence and abysmal Luck surprised Luna, prompting her to announce this new rising star who became an Arch Priest to the cheering Guild.[2]
Irregular of Axel Arc[]
Luna was tending to the Guild early the following morning at an hour the other adventurers hadn't yet arrived, when two Crimson Demon Arch Wizard girls walked in to sign up. First verifying the Adventurer Card of Yunyun and signing her up as an adventurer, a few hours later she went on to verify the one belonging to Megumin, and drew the attention of the adventurers present upon this other rising star.[3]
After the Guild was notified of a powerful Demon being sighted in the nearby forests, Luna warned Megumin who got rejected by other adventurer parties not to cast her Explosion Magic within the city walls, before stopping her brawl with Yunyun and kicking them both off the premises. The next day Luna helped process the Crimson Demons' quest against Giant Toads, then heard them report about meeting Host in the forest and him searching for a "black beast". Pondering the Demon to mean the Beginner's Bane, Luna proceeded to declare the forest off-limits while petitioning other cities for reinforcements.[4]
Subsequent to the hunting squadron organised by the Guild against Host returning in defeat, Luna announced the bad news of reinforcements unable to come because Beldia and his army of Undeads were on the move, though she next broke to the demoralised adventurers the good news of Aqua the Arch Priest being somewhere in the city.[5] The report brought back by the Crimson Demons on the following evening about Rex's party being defeated by Host, however, sent her along with other adventurers into despair,[6] before she later processed the rewards given to the said party following Host's defeat.[7]
Beginner Adventurer Arc[]
A day after processing Kazuma's completion of his first quest against Giant Toads, Luna announced to all of the city's adventurers the emergency quest against Cabbages,[8] following which she recommended the party a quest against a Zombie Maker.[9]
Explaining afterwards to a distraught Aqua that during the Cabbage harvest she had instead grabbed only cheap Lettuces, the receptionist accordingly called on all the adventurers to the city gate when Beldia showed up.[10]
During the ensuing week, Luna also processed quests including the one where Aqua purified the Brutal Alligators out of the riverhead lake, before calling another emergency quest when Beldia showed up again.[11] It too fell to Luna when it came to announcing the rewards to Kazuma's party for vanquishing a general of the Devil King, as well as informing them of the humongous bill from flood damages caused by Aqua that plunged them into heavy debt.[12]
Deep Winter Arc[]
After Kazuma's party purified the Ghosts infesting an empty mansion that they moved into, Luna offered them rewards for the job. Yet once she told them the reason an infestation occurred in the first place was because somebody had raised a powerful magical barrier around the nearby public cemetery, which drove the lost souls unable to enter into haunting the mansion instead, Kazuma strangely refused the rewards.[13]
Luna later put a patch of forest south of the city into lockdown because Darkness got cursed into weakness by the Powerful Messenger dwelling there, and also issued an emergency broadcast when the earth spirit was seen heading towards Axel.[14] She subsequently visited Wiz's Shop while Kazuma's party was there, in order to petition Wiz for a job entailing the investigation into the sudden appearance of Ghouls around the city.[15] And after Kazuma's party returned with the live cub of a White Tiger they were questing against, Luna who offered a high price for it found herself too charmed by its cuteness.[16]
When the Destroyer approached Axel, Luna broadcasted a general evacuation for the townsfolk while calling all the adventurers to the Guild for an emergency meeting, where she briefed them over the origins and abilities of the mobile fortress, before overseeing their discussion that cumulated with Kazuma coming up with an idea to save the city.[17]
Late Winter Arc[]
As Sena came to arrest Kazuma for treason several days afterwards because the Destroyer's coronatite core obliterated Alderp's mansion, Luna made to distance herself from the Adventurer in fear of being charged with treason too.[18]
(Later in the anime, she suggested Kazuma to take a quest into Keele's Dungeon for exploring an area that was newly discovered)[19]
Approached by Dust about a quest against Orcs one day, Luna after giving him a warning for his sexual harassment was shocked to see a little girl grabbing onto him, though her initial suspicion of the delinquent kidnapping a child was soon discovered to be mistaken. The next day, she abided by the request of Mitsurugi to reward him instead of Dust, since he ended up being the one who eliminated the Orcs.[20]
With directives from the Guild's higher-ups to keep the reborn Vanir, who had quit being a Devil King's General to work at Wiz's Shop, under scrutiny,[21] Luna was surprised when one day he came asking for a space at the Guild's hall to start a consultation service, which she was eventually pressured into permitting.[22] Luna also sent out an emergency broadcast for adventurers when a sloth of One-Punch Bears were ravaging nearby fields.[23] At some point during the period, the receptionist managed to dissuade Darkness when the Crusader tried to take a quest against Giant Toads despite nobody wanting to team up with her.[24]
As one of the single women in Axel who was desperate to marry, Luna joined the Association for Protecting Women's Chances of Marriage headed by Sena. Having overheard many of the male adventurers whispering about a suspicious cafe, which she suspected to be behind the lack of the city's men lusting after women, Luna also participated in the police raid on the establishment. The raiding party however only found a fortune telling service that Dust and a man covering his face with a helmet were using at the time, and despite Luna's best efforts no evidence of illegal activity were discovered.[25]
During Dust's fortnight of imprisonment at the end of winter, Luna helped process his party members' request for a temporary member to replace him.[26]
Early Spring Arc[]
In the anime, Luna was the one who sent Kazuma's party on the quest against the Lizard Runners.[27]
When Taylor brought Keith and Rin along with the temporary member on an overnight quest against Goblins near Keele's Dungeon, Luna was requested by Rin not to let Dust, who just got released from jail, know where they were headed. Dust later came asking for quests or odd jobs that he could take, so Luna informed him how people had specifically requested not to hire him due to his regular antics well-documented in her list. Yet just as she was discussing with Sena several hours afterwards, Dust followed by the Loli Succubus frantically rushed back asking for his party's location. Having heard about the temporary member actually being an accomplice of a criminal organisation aiming to kidnap Rin, Luna finally relented and told Dust of his party's questing destination.[26] After the matter was settled, she processed the reparation money the Guild paid Dust's party for recommending a criminal to them.[28]
As storm season approached, Luna sent a request for Megumin to join the quest against the Great Spirit of the Storm, and also felt pity at Kazuma who didn't even know that weather patterns were caused by various Spirits.[29]
Possibly around that time period, Luna was surprised at somebody asking to have Aqua perform a job, prompting her to repeatedly confirm if he was looking for the right person and won't request reparations from the Guild in the case of failure, before contacting Kazuma's party upon hearing about the job being a rainmaking request at the farmland area.[30]
After Kazuma who became rich stopped taking quests despite the Guild hoping for the contrary, Luna hired a new adventurer called Ran to pose as his fan. Kazuma soon took the bait and began bragging at the Guild to Ran about how he was a veteran adventurer, so Luna timely stepped in to request Kazuma take a quest for fighting a strange Golem guarding some ancient ruins, one which he couldn't refuse in front of his "fan". Then when Kazuma began boasting to Ran again upon his return, Luna again showed up to request him go on a quest to investigate those ruins. Yet when Ran came to Luna demanding more pay for listening to his overblown bragging, their scheme was overheard by the said Adventurer himself, ending with Luna's panties getting Stolen by the upset Kazuma.[31]
Cursed Ring Arc[]
Having heard from Aqua how Kazuma was out stealing women's panties because of a cursed ring stuck onto his finger, Luna despite obviously avoiding Kazuma still offered to borrow him a space at the Guild's hall for small business so he can earn the huge fee charged by Vanir to remove the ring. Yet the maid café Kazuma proceeded to open soon came into conflict with the Guild's own restaurant business, so having overheard him contemplating conning the customers for more money, she used it as blackmail to force Kazuma into closing the maid café.[32]
When Dust and Keith were telling Kazuma about a Sports Festival organised by the Guild, Luna approached to elaborate on the Guild's budget for the winning team's prizes, which was more than enough to pay Vanir's fee, before signing up Kazuma's party along with Wiz, Chris, and Yunyun into one team. She proceeded to act as the announcer on the day of the Sports Festival, though after Brutal Alligator hatchlings began biting at the contestants swimming across the riverhead lake and Megumin casting an Explosion in response, Luna had to announce the festival cancelled due to nearby monsters becoming agitated.[33]
As Kazuma turned to making money by starting an idol unit named "Shiny Blue", which was comprised of the six women helping him, Luna very much let them have their way, until reports came in about Aqua trying to convert fans into the Axis Order during the handshaking events, prompting Luna to inform Kazuma of this turn of events that saw the unit closing down early.[34]
With Kazuma's party returning to earning money through questing, Luna covertly offered them a profitable one, which involved scouting out the cave used by a band of thieves as hideout for the stolen valuable antiques, before agreeing to the idea of Chris and Yunyun accompanying Kazuma in place of his reluctant party members. She was accordingly shocked when Kazuma and his whole gang returned to report about narrowly escaping a Skull Dragon in the cave, as well as disappointed at the news that the original quest was deemed a failure because the cave was brought down by Explosion.[35]
Luna again provided assistance to Kazuma and his companions as they looked for well-paying jobs, although they were nowhere as profitable as the previously offered one. Several days later, Luna issued an emergency broadcast when the Skull Dragon was seen slowing heading towards Axel, before announcing to the assembled adventurers a bounty put upon it. Surprised by the cursed ring on Kazuma's finger flashing during the meeting, she let his gang go ask Vanir for more information. Later hearing them reiterate the origins of the Skull Dragon, Luna witnessed the ensuing formation of Kazuma's strategy that eventually allowed them to save the city.[36]
Magical Stones Arc[]
Usually staying at the Guild to offer Kazuma's party quests and various advice,[37] Luna one day asked them to help fight Undeads spawning from Keele's Dungeon in large numbers, and despite Kazuma initially ignoring before refusing her due to remembering how she and Ran had tricked him, he soon agreed to take the quest.[38]
Some days later, Luna got pestered by Aqua who wanted to enter the Mystery Tower that was put under lockdown by the Guild. After explaining how the dungeon appeared out of the blue a month prior and made the adventurers who entered it all panicked, she temporarily lifted the lockdown in order to allow the determined Kazuma's party to go investigate it.[39]
On the day following the disappearance and reappearance of the tower, Luna upon Sena arriving at the Guild to recruit adventurers into exploring a moving dungeon sounded the assembly broadcast.[40] Then subsequent to the vanquishing of the Imitation Dragon, she cheered Kazuma up when he became depressed at not profiting from the whole ordeal.[41]
Black Slab Arc[]
When word got out about Kazuma's party generating women's clothes with special effects using the Black Slab in order to satisfy the nobleman accusing them of theft, other townsfolk also wanted them to generate all sorts of women's clothing, so for several months Luna gathered their requests at the Guild before passing them on to Kazuma.[42][43][44]
Mid Spring Arc[]
The day prior to a high-ranking official belonging to the Guild Headquarters at the royal capital coming to Axel for inspections, Luna unsure of his intent sounded an assembly broadcast for informing all adventurers especially Kazuma's party, because there was a very real risk of the troublemakers getting disqualified and losing their Adventurer Cards. Pressuring Kazuma and Aqua who were protesting about their party being seen as troublemakers into silence, in addition to clarifying Megumin and Darkness to be within that category as well, she commanded the four of them to stay around and perform quests normally for the inspection because their fame had made their party an aspect the official will certainly inspect. Luna proceeded to greet the official upon his arrival on the following day, during which she emphasised her breasts more than usual, and later on handed Kazuma's party the rewards for defeating a Frog Killer.[45]
Cursed Relic Arc[]
Luna called Kazuma's party to the Guild one day because a nobleman called Lundberg requested them to help investigate an ancient relic discovered beneath his mansion, only to result in Kazuma being charged with treason in addition to him and his companions Level Drained of all their levels and skills on top of losing all their money and advanced equipment.[46] After borrowing them some of the Guild's spare equipment for rookies so they could go search for the replacement parts of the relic needed for Kazuma's pardoning, Luna for the most part stayed at the Guild to offer Kazuma's party quests and various advice as well as help Kazuma undergo class changes.[47]
When Kazuma's party came asking about a locked doorway in the neighbourhood ruins that they needed to enter in order to search the underground sewers beyond for a replacement part, Luna went to contact the noble in charge of sewer maintenance, and was able to obtain the key for unlocking the doorway, though she also warned them about unknown hazards lurking in the sewers where for years nobody had tread.[48] Upon hearing about the party heading for the snowfield forest some time later, she uneasily explained to them how the overabundance of Snow Sprites in the area had made the forest's temperature dangerously cold.[49]
A few days after Lundberg's arrest for treason, Luna briefed the city's adventurers at a Guild meeting about the mysterious monster Wallavy, which had been draining monsters and adventurers of their life force and magical power for growing but never causing fatalities. Despite offering a reward for more information regarding Wallavy, whose threat the majority of adventurers were dismissing, the concerned Luna's petition was only met with silence.[50] Her worries proved true when subsequent to Kazuma's party searching the Great Tree Labyrinth, a giant Wallavy was seen emerging from the Temple of Everlasting Summer and began destroying towns and farmlands.[51]
Several days afterward, Luna was moved when Kazuma in an attempt to save the city headed for the Magic-Sealer Cave where a counter weapon was said to be hidden, before hearing of Wallavy heading towards them. She later met them at the grasslands outside Axel upon their return, just as the city's adventurers were preparing to defend against the approaching giant Wallavy, and offered free bubbly to the participants once they win through.[52]
When reports regarding multiple sightings of monsters looking like small clones of Wallavy at multiple locations subsequently came in, Luna guided Kazuma's party and other adventurers towards the dungeons they needed to head for.[53] Following Kazuma and his party's return from the Bottomless Labyrinth, she and Sena told them of the remaining small Wallavies recalled by the main Wallavy which they pleaded for him to help fight, before spending days looking for Wallavy and Rav's whereabouts without luck.[54]
As reports came in of Wallavy, now grown to supergigantic proportions, heading towards Axel where most of the adventurers were out elsewhere, Luna who sent out a general evacuation broadcast for the townsfolk despaired upon hearing that the knights won't arrive in time to save the city, and even more so when Sena told her of Alderp deserting the provinces, though she still went to help with the evacuation.[55] Reinvigorated after Kazuma's party returned to Axel, the receptionist made herself useful in the ensuing battle by delivering potions and manatite to revive Megumin whenever she spent all her magical powers against the mutated Wallavy and its clones.[56]
Late Spring Arc[]
Soon after Kazuma and his party returned from the Crimson Demon Village, Luna in the anime handed him a pamphlet for a temple where he wanted to become a monk at, and became befuddled when he left confessing to have harboured affections for her.[57]
Later as Kazuma's party began bragging to be "S Class" adventurers, Luna used this as well as a busty hug to goad Kazuma into leading the expedition against Shuten and her tribe of Ogres.[58]
Early Summer Arc[]
When the Guild rewarded Kazuma's party for defeating Sylvia, Luna was the one in charge of handing Kazuma the reward money.[59] As the shocking news of the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade being divined by Soketto to be located in Axel threw the Guild into an uproar a week later, the receptionist became further flustered because of Megumin and Aqua's report about their party's failed attempt to subjugate the Kowloon Hydra which the knights of the kingdom were unavailable to handle, though Luna also expressed hope at Vanir and Kazuma's party catching the thieves.[60] Then following the vanquishing of the powerful monster, she presented the rewards to the adventurers who participated in the battle.[61]
Sometime after stopping a brawl between Dust and Rin,[62] the receptionist refused an offer from Dust to accompany him on a trip to Arcanletia, before ranting about all sorts of trouble that precluded her from taking a break.[63] Like the rest of the city following their departure, Luna also found herself gradually turning sluggish from losing motivation, and could only whine at Dust when he returned.[64] She too reverted to normal a little while preceding Dust coming to report about him and his companions defeating the Prototype Destroyer at the ancient ruins, the rewards for which she accordingly handed them.[65]
Mid Summer Arc[]
Luna was one day asked by Dust about sightings of Tranquility Girls, so overjoyed at him volunteering to vanquish the alluring monster that only those without compassion and conscience could commit, she without naming names teased Kazuma who was reported to have cut down one of them near Arcanletia, though her revealing a Tranquility Girl to have taken root near the riverhead lake also brought Aqua into a panic attack. Later giving a warning to Dust for sexually harassing a waitress, she eventually had to give in when the delinquent feigned disinterest in eliminating the Tranquility Girl that Kazuma had previously refused to eradicate despite it having seduced many adventurers away from the Guild. Assuring him how he could be rewarded once the monster is vanquished, Luna as promised handed Dust the rewards after he completed the quest on the following day.[66]
When the time came for eliminating the masses of summer monsters, Luna and her colleagues busied themselves with organising the masses of requests swarming the Guild, in addition to directing the adventurers from the front line and supplying them with bug-sprayers. On the first day of the operation, however, she had to retreat early due to Megumin's sudden Explosion on the first wave of attacking insects attracting an even bigger second wave.[67] Luna also arranged for Kazuma's party to undergo retraining at the seaside for failing too many quests, in addition to inviting Mitsurugi, Wiz, and Yunyun to become their lecturers.[68]
Continuing her daily chores of dealing with the various troubles from adventurers, including a drunken Dust to whom she gave a warning for sexual harassment, Luna one day was flabbergasted when Vanir gifted her carcasses of monsters. Rebutting his claims of her harbouring a fetish for corpses by citing the Guild's policies to prevent rotting carcasses attracting monsters and sparking diseases, the receptionist asked the overpowered Duke of Hell not to destroy the local ecosystem as well as reclaim the Vanir Dolls that he had left behind to replace the hunted monsters.[1]
She on the following day dealt with various complaints about the troubles caused by adventurers who included Megumin and Darkness, yet while staying behind late at night as usual to finish processing all the documents involved, the receptionist was approached by Vanir who invited her for a drink. Proceeding to vent about how the city's adventurers always caused trouble and forced her deal with the mess, the workload from which deprived her of vacation as well as love life, Luna bemoaning Vanir's identity as a Demon instead of a man fell asleep while wishing for a good rest.[1]
Waking up late the next day, Luna frantically rushed to the Guild, only to discover that not only had Vanir filled in as the receptionist so she can rest, but managed to discipline all those problematic adventurers. The receptionist was next told how he was doing this out of interest in her, prompting Luna to bashfully express her fondness of him in spite of Vanir's identity. At the prompting of the Loli Succubus, she accepted Vanir's offer of becoming her companion so they can continue drinking and talking, only to have the Archdemon publicly blurt out how he was interested in Luna's exquisite negative emotions emitted out of jealousy towards her married colleagues and frustruation at problematic adventurers.[1]
Despite the crushing humiliation inflicted upon her, Luna nevertheless joined him with drinking during the ensuing nights after she and the Archdemon who began working to help discipline problematic adventurers were alone at the Guild. Subsequent to a scolding she gave him one time over the mean prank and complaining about attracting weirdos in a city where the men somehow lack sexual desire, the receptionist turned down the offer from the Duke of Hell to shapeshift into Prince Jatice and propose to her. Next asking for him to foretell her marriage prospects only to have the All-Seeing Demon hesitate, Luna gave up on the idea and instead asked to see what Vanir looked like under his mask, then decided that she'll be fine with having a demonic suitor.[1]
Late Summer Arc[]
Shocked to find Megumin one day posting an advertisement at the Guild for recruiting bandit members whose purpose is to raid the residences of nobles like the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade does, the receptionist frantically tore it down, before threatening to put a bounty on the Crimson Demon's head if she really established such a bandit band.[69] On the following day Luna was approached again by Megumin asking on behalf of her band jobs entailing security services that get paid protection money, though due to the Yatagarasu having recently failed at the same line of work and the Crimson Demon declining another job for chasing away crows at the rubbish dumps, she ended up offering them the work request filed by Cecily.[70] And some days later, the receptionist was asked by them if there was a blond male adventurer who wields a spear and has a straightforward personality, though because none of Axel's adventurers matched all the descriptions, Luna took the girls to see an old retired adventurer, a spearthrowing athlete, and Dust who matched some of them.[71]
At some point during the period, Luna helped a team of national magic researchers who were studying Crimson Demons arrange for Megumin to assist with their research.[72] And when faced with Claire and Rain one day showing up to look for Dust, the receptionist quickly pointed them to the delinquent upon his appearance at the Guild.[73]
