Rav (ラヴ) was a mad scientist who fanatically worshipped the "Great Professor".[1]
Appearance[]
Rav is a lanky middle aged man sporting unkempt dirty blond hair, a pallid skin tone from his indoor lifestyle, as well as stubble and a thin moustache on his face. He wears a lab coat over blue shirt and trousers as well as rectangular glasses, with a bandolier of test tubes around his belly.
Personality[]
Rav has an infatuation for researching as well as tinkering with ancient relics, especially those connected to the "Great Professor", and gets so passionate whenever such items are presented to him that Kazuma compares his obsessions on par with those expressed by Darkness. This fervour also drives him into bold acts of venturing into dungeons alone for the search of relics.
His fixation, however, not only made his behaviour apparently introverted, but also deprived him of morality when it concerns his studies. As such, he will resort to deceit and betrayal if it means advancement for his research, and pays no heed to any possible collateral damage on the world that stems from his actions or his self-proclaimed mission to realise the dream of the "Great Professor".
History[]
Before he was hired to investigate the relic discovered in the research facility beneath Lundberg's mansion, Rav had dedicated himself to the study of ancient relics, many of which lie in the depths of dungeons. Due to the lack of funding, he vehemently headed into the dungeons alone despite not being an adventurer, defending himself from the monsters by a variety of magic items including ones for Teleportation. Later on, he even set up residences within dungeons, like in the Bottomless Labyrinth and the Secret Research Facility, so that his research work can proceed more efficiently.
Following his employment by Lundberg, Rav while deciphering the manuscript of the "Great Professor" that was written in an otherworldly language, managed to make out sentences describing how the relic, created at the time of Lundberg's ancestor, was used for sealing an ultimate magical creature known as Wallavy. Filled with a calling to let this supreme creation reach its final evolution as he thought the "Great Professor" would have wanted, Rav worked tirelessly to make the relic function. Meanwhile, he also lied to his ambitious patron, citing how the ultimate magical creature follows the command of those in the Lundberg bloodline, as part of his ploy to receive generous funding for his various researches.
Several years later, Rav figured out that in order to activate the sealing device and free Wallavy, they would need to replace some of its parts as well as get around its defence mechanism, prompting Lundberg into hiring Kazuma's party for that purpose. Following the device being damaged by Megumin's Explosion, Rav came up with a list of parts that the rookified Kazuma and his companions need to gather for its repair and activation, while also asking Chris, Mitsurugi, and Yunyun to scout ahead at locations where some parts may be found. And sometime when he was waiting for the replacement parts that he extoled upon receipt before immediately installing onto the sealing device, Rav secretly stowed away Mitsurugi's Gram and Aqua's hagoromo that were confiscated by Lundberg, in the case he needed to use them for bargaining purposes.
Once all of the parts were assembled, Rav busied himself with the activation of the sealing device, and released Wallavy when a Lundberg assured of his triumph bragged about overthrowing the throne in front of Kazuma's party and Sena. He subsequently apologised to his shocked employer for deceiving him, before using a Teleportation magic item to escape so he can chase after the departing Wallavy.
Rav followed Wallavy to the Oasis of Everlasting Summer, where he observed how the magical creature absorbed the life force of monsters to grow into its first form that had strong enough regenerative abilities to force the pursuing Kazuma's party into retreat. He then directed Wallavy into heading towards the Great Tree Labyrinth so it can absorb another part of it that was sealed in a separate device hidden there, before taking off again when Kazuma's party caught up.
Several days later, Rav observed the giant Wallavy's attack on Axel, and remained unfazed throughout Kazuma and his companions' resistance using fire magic which Wallavy was susceptible to. He soon fell into panicked despair when Kazuma instructed Wiz into using ice magic to freeze Wallavy so the adventurers can break its frozen body into pieces, but upon realising that Wallavy's core had escaped to his side, he took it with him as he made his escape.
Analysing the weaknesses of Wallavy that were revealed in the battle, Rav encased the core within a shell made from the sealing device for its protection, before hiding Wallavy at an inconspicuous spot outside the Bottomless Labyrinth, within which he stationed Guardian Sword and Guardian Cross to stand sentry after using the two divine items he had taken as their power source. Monitoring Wallavy with a magic observation device, Rav became intriged at how Wallavy split out multiple small clones of itself to drain life force from monsters over a wide area, and accordingly took some of them as samples for experimentation, then escaped by Teleportation again when Kazuma's party made their way to his hideout in the Bottomless Labyrinth.
Despite losing track of Wallavy soon after, Rav was delighted at the super gigantic size it had developed into, which had outgrown his expectations. Using the advanced technology left in the Secret Research Facility, he proceeded to engineer the samples taken from Wallavy into modified forms that not only grow spines but can listen to his commands. As Kazuma's party found him once more, Rav explained to them his mission of making Wallavy fulfill its destiny of becoming the ultimate magical creature that the "Great Professor" had dreamt of. He next ordered the modified Wallavy clones to eliminate the impeding adventurers, but just as he was analysing their flaws after their defeat, Kazuma revealed how according to the Japanese diary of that NEET scientist from Japan, Wallavy was actually nothing but infinitely replicating warabi mochi, which got created simply because the idiot had wanted to eat that confection.
Driven dumb by the truth, Rav offered no resistance as he was captured by the party, and could only protest when they used one of the flying relics in his collection for racing back to Axel when Wallavy was trying to attack it again. Then in the middle of the ensuing battle just before Wallavy reached its final mutation, Rav during his ravings revealed to Sena how Wallavy was unable to fight for prolonged periods because its core had already been damaged in Megumin's initial Explosion on the relic. He was later extradited by the prosecutor to the Royal Capital several days following Wallavy's destruction.
Creations[]
Being a fanatical follower of the "Great Professor", Rav had gleaned a talent for engineering various relics and other high technology creations, some of which actually surpassed his mentor's efforts.
- Golems
- Guardian Sword
- Guardian Cross
- Titan Golem Type 2, an upgrade of the Titan Golem.
Rav also set up automated assembly lines in the Secret Research Facility's production bays to churn out mass-produced versions of it. - A series of Maid Golems actually looking like pretty girls that the "Great Professor" had originally intended to make:
- Pony-Tail Maid version, possibly a redesign of the Proto Golem, which wears its hair in a pony-tail and jumps around while wielding spiked knuckles over its fists.
- Twin-Tail Maid version, possibly a redesign of the Cat-Eared Golem, which wears its hair in twin-tails with cat ears and wields a katana.
- Side-Tail Maid version, possibly a redesign of the Maid Golem, which wears its hair in a side-tail and wields two scatter grenade launchers.
- Chief Maid version, possibly a redesign of the Glasses Golem, which wears round glasses and its hair in a long braid in addition to wielding tonfas.
- Queen Maid version, which is a refitting of the Pretty Girl Golems that the "Great Professor" had created for his perverted plays, and wields the same sadism tools for weapons.
- Majin Golem Type 2, an upgrade of the Majin Golem.
- Iron Man Golem Type 2, an upgrade of the Iron Man Golem.
- Coronatite Golem
- Creatures
