An unknown chamber located in Hogwarts Castle outside the Great Hall was the rudimentary resting place of Lord Voldemort.

History

When Voldemort fought his final duel with Harry Potter on 2 May 1998, his Killing Curse rebounded onto him due to Harry's Disarming Charm and the allegiance of the Elder Wand being to Harry. Since all of Voldemort's Horcruxes had been destroyed by this point, Voldemort died due to his own rebounded Curse, ending the Battle of Hogwarts, and the Second Wizarding War.

Immediately after the duel, there were joyous celebrations. A crowd of Harry's supporters then moved Voldemort's corpse into a chamber separate from the Great Hall where the duel had occurred. This was done out of memory of Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Fred Weasley, Colin Creevey, and another fifty causalities of the Battle. It is unknown if this became the final resting place of the Dark Lord, or if his body was later moved to another location. It is also unknown where exactly the chamber was, save for the fact that it was located outside the Great Hall. Voldemort's soul, meanwhile, was ravaged by the creation of Horcruxes, and therefore was forced to exist in limbo.

Behind the scenes

• The book depicts Voldemort's body as being intact after his death. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Voldemort's body is depicted as disintegrating, omitting the chamber's mention and purpose completely.
