Aiden O'Malley (Irish: Aodhán Ó Máille) (inmate number 466369) is a minor character in Grand Theft Auto IV. He was a Dukes-born Irish-American linked to criminals in Ireland and Dukes. He was an associate of Derrick McReary and Bucky Sligo, whom he often worked with. O'Malley, who spoke with an Irish accent, had spent most of his adult life in Ireland and Britain, linked with several paramilitary and terrorist groups.
Biography[]
Life until Arrest[]
Before moving to America, Aiden lived in Ireland and the United Kingdom and was associated with several dissident republican paramilitaries during the Troubles. His exact association with the groups is unknown, however he likely funded them or was involved in smuggling operations. While associating himself with such groups, he would eventually meet Derrick McReary, who was a volunteer in the Provisional IRA. In 1995, Aiden was convicted for a string of robberies, based on testimony from Derrick (who supposedly did not remember giving evidence), and was sentenced to twenty years in prison. Whilst inside, Aiden complained about Derrick's part in his sentencing, and his friend Bucky threatened the lives of Derrick's family, much to Derrick's distress.
Aiden probably had an old flame by the name of Julia, as suggested in conversation after he is taken out of the escort by Niko and Packie.
Death[]
In 2008, Aiden offers information which may lead to numerous arrests, and gives testimony at the Varsity Heights Police Station in Varsity Heights, Algonquin. The McReary brothers plan to hijack a Police Stockade transporting him back to Alderney State Correctional Facility; Niko Bellic and Packie destroy the police escorts in the Booth Tunnel, and they steal the van with Aiden inside. After driving the van to Alderney and successfully evading the police, Packie and Niko bundle a grateful Aiden into a less conspicuous vehicle and drive him to the cliffs in Leftwood. Upon arrival at the cliffs, Aiden is told that he was freed on the orders of Derrick McReary, much to Aiden's disgust. Packie orders Niko to execute Aiden, whose body then falls down the cliffs into the water.
Aiden's death is much like a special execution, any weapon will do, and if aimed correctly, he will "rag-doll" down the hill, while the camera moves to a more cinematic angle, If O'Malley is killed by a molotov, he will roll around screaming for a few seconds. When the game changes to the cutscene, he will stop burning, stand up again, and collapse dead on the ground.
The police eventually recover and identify his body.
