Ladybugs are a neutral insect found in the Grasslands and Flower Bed biomes. They're friendly to players, but are a formidable threat if threatened. They have an infected variant, as well as an upper yard variant called the Ladybird.
Behavior[]
Ladybugs roam aimlessly and slowly on the ground. They occasionally lay down and sleep under the leaves of Dandelions. Ladybugs are big enough to push Clovers, Grass, and Dry Grass out of the way. When engaging perceived threats, they may use a charge attack that allows them to cover large distances and stun enemies. At close range, they forcibly bump and stun the threat. Ladybugs have three other close-range attacks, two of which are a simple headbutt and a more lethal side bump, both being strong enough to stun and severely hurt the player. The third attack will only occur if the player jumps on top of an aggressive Ladybug, in which it will shake them off by jumping in the air, doing large damage. Ladybugs will also sometimes roar, which will heal the Ladybug by 150 health points.
Interactions With Player[]
The Ladybug is neutral towards the player. It becomes hostile if attacked by the player and will attempt to defend itself. A non-hostile Ladybug can accidentally kill the player should the player step into the path of an attack, such as when it is hunting Aphids, or protecting itself against other aggressors. Similarly, a player riding on a Ladybug's back may also inadvertently take damage when it attacks. When near a player, a neutral Ladybug chirps and coos, sometimes rearing backward.
Interaction With Other Creatures[]
Ladybugs actively hunt Aphids and will chase them great distances. Ladybugs are neutral, but will defend themselves and become hostile toward other creatures that may attack them. When attacking Aphids, they only use their head bump attack.
Advanced Loot Table[]
This is a more advanced covering of the loot-table of Ladybug. Each item has an independent chance and count, in which the chance is the chance it can drop and the count is the amount of items that have that chance. If a count larger than 1 is in one section, then each item has an independent chance from one another (EX: Instead of getting say 2 of a resource, you can get 1 with a 70% chance and another with an additional 70% chance). In terms of Stealing, it can take one item from every section of the loot table, so even if a item count is say 5, the player will only steal one from that section.
Creature Loot Tables also tend to have large amounts of 1% items, which is intended to make stealing more rare items harder, as the player is more likely to steal the large amounts of 1% items than a singular 50% item.
Note: For consistency sake, all duplicate categories have a multiplier next to them, but function as unique loot types when say using Stealing.

Strategy[]
Ladybugs are fairly difficult to kill and may pose a challenge to early-game players. The player can take them out with a slightly upgraded Pebblet Hammer, but the Insect Hammer is much more effective for killing them. If the player is not skilled at perfect blocking, their charge will be interrupted if they charge near a steep slope or Grass. As well as this, their side attack tends to be easily dodge able by circling the Ladybug.
Trivia[]
- The Ladybug appears to be based off of the Seven-Spotted or Two-Spotted Ladybug, even though the ones in-game have 5 spots.
- The Ladybug creature card used to state that ladybugs hunt weevils, although in game they only appear to hunt aphids.
- Ladybugs used to be very easy to exploit by "riding" on their backs and hitting them.
- This was later patched with the addition of a "shaking" attack that only triggers when on top of the creature.
