Playground Playground!
This article contains content only accessible in Playgrounds mode.

Playgrounds are a unique feature entirely separate from the base Game Modes, essentially being an enhanced version of Creative mode. The player is able to spawn in any item in the game, spawn in unique assets from the base game, and have access to unique Gizmos & Gadgets targeted at world design that are unobtainable in normal survival saves.

Unique Features[]

Design/Play Mode[]

Design/Play Mode are two states the player can freely switch between by pressing the corresponding key.

Design Mode[]

By default, the player is in Design Mode, which allows the player to spawn in various items and assets from the base game, including those exclusive to Playgrounds. When pressing B or Right D-Pad, the player can open a menu that allows them to spawn in any item in the game. The first tab is Gizmos & Gadgets, being various structures unobtainable in the base-game, and targeted at more advanced level design. The next few tabs are all the items from the base-game, being the Tools, Armor, Resources, Consumables, and all base structures.

The final 4 tabs are unique, with the 4th from last being the ability to spawn every creature, except for Red Ant Queen, Black Ant Queen, Fire Ant Queen, Crow, and Infected Ant Queen. When placed down, their AI will not be active unless the player switches to Play Mode. The final 3 are assets found in the base game, being the Resource Nodes the player can harvest in the base game, Manmade Props such as the various Landmarks in-game, and Natural Props such as dirt clumps, rocks, plants, and roots.

When the player places an item, they can move it freely, delete it, or customize it if it is able to be. The player can not pick-up, use, or interact with any placed or pre-existing items when in Design Mode. The player, in Design Mode, is also able to create Links with the Left-Mouse or Right-Trigger if the structure interacted with can create or accept a link. Links are only visible and interactable in Design Mode. Some Gizmos & Gadgets are also ONLY visible in Design Mode, and automatically become invisible in Play Mode.

Play Mode[]

Play Mode functions identically to how the base game acts, in which the player is able to freely interact with items and play the game as usual. Creatures will also gain their AI and start moving around. However, once the player switches back to Design Mode, all changes to the world they've made in Play Mode are reverted.

When a Playground is shared, the player automatically is in Play Mode.

Links[]

Links are a unique mechanic that can lead to more advanced level development. Links can be made by pressing the Left-Mouse or Right-Trigger on a compatible item. Links need to be started from a "trigger", or any item that when interacted with causes something unique. This includes picking up an item, interacting with a Button or Lever Switch of some kind, opening a door, hitting a Mant Gong or Target and its variants, scoring a shot in a Basketball Hoop, or other functions from the various Gizmos & Gadgets. Links can transfer this signal to something that can display an action, which can be many different things depending what it links to.

Links can also do up to 3 unique actions, going from 1-3 every trigger and either ending when all 3 actions are completed, if the following actions are "None", or if "Activate" is above the other actions on the priority.

Grassbox[]

The Grassbox

The Grassbox is a unique counterpart to the Backyard exclusive to Playgrounds that can be chosen over the Backyard when starting a Playground. The Grassbox is a flatter, smaller, and more barren version of the Backyard, being entirely devoid of all life and unique Resources. It does have various Landmarks the player can build around, such as 7 caves, 3 labs, 2 juice boxes, a soda can, a Baseball, 2 small Flooded Zones, a small "upper yard", and multiple missing bricks in the border wall.

Sharing Playgrounds[]

To share a Playground, the player can publish their worlds via the option in the saves menu or when "Continuing" their Playgrounds. When published, they will be given a code for their world. This code can be inputted in the "Downloads" section of the Playgrounds tab to download the published world. Your playground will also be published on a database, in which it will appear on the "recent" section for anyone to play.
