Note: The signature filing deadline is the date by which candidates must file nominating signatures with election officials in order to have their name placed on the ballot.

The 5 states below will hold statewide elections in 2011. Kentucky will not be holding state legislative elections. Kentucky has elections for statewide officials, such as Governor.

State legislative candidates must pay $200 to file to run.
Louisiana September 6-8, 2011. October 22, 2011 There are several methods by which a candidate can qualify for the ballot. For State Representative, a fee of $225, Central Committee Fee of $112.50, and a Parish Executive Committee Fee(If Assessed) of $112.50. Candidates can obtain 400 signatures in lieu of a fee. State Senator candidates must pay $300, a Central Committee Fee of $150, a Parish Executive Committee Fee(If Assessed) of $150. Candidates can obtain 500 signatures in lieu of fee.
Mississippi June 1, 2011[1] August 2, 2011 The 2010 federal decennial census was not received by the Governor of the State of Mississippi by January 1, 2011, and thus the qualifying deadline for legislative offices was moved to 5 p.m. on June 1, 2011 as opposed to March 1. Party candidates must pay a fee of $15, while Independent candidates must obtain 50 signatures but are not required to pay a fee.

Virginia June 15, 2011 at 5 p.m.[3] August 23, 2011 *** Independents must file petitions by August 23 for the General Election. Party candidates are selected by parties and must pay filing fee of 2% of the salary of the office he/she is seeking.


***-Virginia's primary has been rescheduled to August 23, 2011 instead of its usual date of June 14, 2011[4][5].[6]
