Every Child Is Special
STEP 1: DESCRIPTION
His parents then decided to move him to a new school that will teach him
better and far away from home, which, they did not know that will make Ishaan
more depressed. Ishaan is having a hard time coping and adjusting and his only
stress reliever is through painting.
Out of the blue, Mr. Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a new art teacher came to the scene
that defies traditionally practiced teaching. He set his students on hype fire
encouraging them to use their imagination.
He noticed Ishaan and his difficulties. He discovered that Ishaan’s mistakes are
because that he has dyslexia, a disorder that involves difficulty in learning to read
or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that does not affect general
intelligence. Nikumbh reminisced his past as he also has the same problem as
Ishaan before. He decided to help the kid.
While observing Ishaan, Nikumbh noticed the kid’s talent in art. He realized the
kid’s potential. Nikumbh came to visit Ishaan’s family and expound to them the
kid’s problem why he is different. His parents were ashamed of themselves not
knowing their sons potential.
When the decision came to who won the eyes and hearts of the judges. He is tied
with his teacher Nikumbh, but only one should be the winner. And that someone is
no other than Ishaan himself. He won over his very own mentor which made him,
Nikumbh, and his family very happy and proud. Ishaan’s victory helps him find
himself which made him a better person in school, family, and community. His
grades became higher and his personality improved.
STEP 2: FEELING
Through this movie, I somehow understood now of how is the struggle of every
people to be understood by the society. The movie touched my heart in an
exceptional way and it broke my heart seeing that there are people that child thought would
understand him were the very ones who judged him and failed to understand his problem. But I cannot
really judge the parents, all they wanted was the best for their child that is why they tried so hard to push
him and discipline him at the same time. It tugs the heartstrings and at the same time gives hope that
having dyslexia is not a desperate and in hopeless situation. On the other hand, as to see in the teacher’s
side, I am feeling loving of them, right now. For the teacher seemed so understanding and served as the
light from the child’s life in which only black and gray are present. It is touching how he appreciates the
child and led him to get up and to walk beside him. To help the students, family support, teacher’s
patience and love is needed, so with the interesting and enjoyable teaching and learning strategies should
be employed. The theory of multiple intelligence in education plays an important role here and that can
be a vessel in informing the teachers and most importantly the parents for them to assist their children.
With time, patience and care, he ultimately helps Ishaan find himself and the harsh father realized his
child’s worth and needs.
Oftentimes we are blinded by the strict rules and high standards in meeting
academic requirements, that, we fail to see the person’s worth. We believe that an
underperforming child, someone who can hardly read and write and demonstrate
certain skills and knowledge in the given situation is not worth of our time. In my
personal point of view, teachers should help a child in every way they can. They
should look into the child’s potentials as a learner and of what motivates a child
and what does not. Other than a having a broad knowledge on subject-matter,
curriculum and standards, teachers must have strong desire to make a difference
in the lives of young people.
After watching the film, I realized that I am blessed enough since I do not
have any health conditions but I still use some excuses to not perform well. I am
now promising to myself that I will study harder and not make excuses just to
exclude myself from doing things that I have to accomplish. I will also help those
who are in need, well or not, as long as I can give everything to the best of my
ability. I will also pay more respect to instructors because they really are
hardworking people and they always give and do their best just to give us all the
knowledge, wisdom, and guidance.
