Guide Questions: Answer can be in E-Magazine form
1. Write the summary of the movie. Include the the general plot of the movie.
Aamir Khan directed Taare Zameen Par, popularly known as Every Child is Special, an Indian drama film
that was released in 2007 and was the actor's first feature. Ishaan Awasthi, played by Darsheel Safary,
and Ram Shankar Nikumbh, played by Aamir Khan, are the movie's primary characters.
Ishaan Awasthi, an eight-year-old kid, was the focus of the film. Ishaan refused to attend school, which is
why he performed poorly on all of his exams and tests. He has a terrible time going to school and often
feels unimportant around his classmates and professors. But in Ishaan's make-believe world, there are
miracles galore—magical regions, creatures, and just about anything else you can think of. Ishaan is a
talented artist, but no one else appears to realize him. The day when the academic report cards for
Ishaan's sons were delivered arrived.
Ishaan's parents send him to a boarding school after seeing his report card since, regrettably, he had
very poor scores. Ishaan was upset and depressed as a result because he already had a friend at their
school, Rajan, who was the best student in their class. Until one day, when Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a
new art teacher, suddenly appears on the scene, everything—including Ishaan's situation—changes.
Because he encouraged his students to be joyful and upbeat, Nikumbh's teaching methodology stood
apart from other educators. He also realizes right away that Ishaan is unhappy and hasn't participated in
class, so he decides to find out why.
He was truly shocked when he first saw Ishaan's paintings because the young artist's creations are quite
stunning. Ishaan's parents were then informed by Nikumbh that their son is intelligent and
communicates with the world in a unique way compared to other students. Ishaan has dyslexia, but it
does not imply that he is a youngster of low intelligence, he also told them.
After this, Nikumbh volunteers to be Ishaan's individual tutor. He explained dyslexia to the class,
provided a list of well-known individuals who had the condition, and let Ishaan know that he shared
their struggles. Nikumbh helps Ishaan boost his reading and writing abilities by using remedial strategies
created by dyslexia specialists. Ishaan's grades soon started to rise, and he also showed an aptitude for
both language and mathematics. when the academic year is coming to a close. Lalita Lajmi, an artist,
serves as the competition judge for the Nikumbh art festival.
Because of his originality, Ishaan beat Nikumbh and take home the prize. The school's art teacher must
be permanently hired, the principal declares after that. Ishaan's parents were astounded by their son's
dramatic improvement as well. They were extremely appreciative to Nikumbh and as Ishaan is about to
go, he turns around and runs to hug Nikumbh.
2. What are the problems/challenges/dilemma that confronts the teacher(s) in the movie?
I identified three main difficulties that Nikumbh the teacher encountered in the film. I must admit that
the first one is the blatant criticism he gets from his fellow instructors at New Era High School. He is
informed that the pupils won't benefit from his "unorthodox" teaching style because the school's
headmaster places a strong emphasis on discipline, order, and hard work. According to his colleagues,
those three are the pillars of success as they continue to tease Nikumbh's singing, dancing, and acting
teaching style in his art class. I can attribute to this to Organizational barriers that was discussed by
Group 2 because instead of commending and supporting teacher Nikumbh in getting the best out of the
students at New Era High School, they mocked and laughed at him, which I believe, is one organizational
flaw that teachers can experience in real life. In Ishaan's elementary school, the second challenge—
concerning facilities—became clear. Due to the enormous class size and the lack of adequate supplies
and equipment, the teacher had difficulty in properly managing the class. Finally, Ishaan was initially
quite resistant and aloof to the teacher, which presented difficulties for Nikumbh as a teacher. Since
Ishaan won’t talk to him or his peers in class, he is unable to determine Ishaan’s learning needs.
3. How did the teacher(s) resolve these problem/challenges/dilemma?
I strongly believe that because of his drive and determination, teacher Nikumbh is brave enough to
interrogate and challenge the status quo at New Era High School. He was able to capture his students'
attention, especially Ishaan, by using his unconventional but entertaining and engaging method of
teaching Arts. Therefore, it is safe to say that he emphasizes radical behaviors in order to establish
relationships and trust with his students. Even though his own colleagues make fun of him, he succeeds
in inspiring them to love arts and respect his unconventional teaching methods.
4. What are the leadership qualities/behavior the teacher(s) shown in the movie?
After seeing the entire film, I can say with confidence that teacher Nikumbh exemplifies the ideal
teacher today, just like the educators who influenced me from elementary school through high school.
He is smart because he can come up with numerous ideas as to how to make his art lesson engaging and
student-centered, and by doing so, he demonstrated pedagogical excellence. His understanding of the
significance of Ishaan's parents, particularly when he went to see them to explain Ishaan's condition,
also exemplified an instructional leadership quality. He supported Ishaan the entire academic year,
which in my opinion qualifies him as an optimist. And above all, he is inspirational because Ishaan and
the entire school looked up to him after they saw how Ishaan has improved. He is inspirational above all
else since Ishaan and the rest of the school looked up to him after seeing how much Ishaan has
progressed.
5. How does the students or other characters in the movie relate to or interact with the teachers
given the teacher’s leadership qualities/behavior?
As soon as they realized that his teaching method was unique and engaging compared to that of other
teachers, the kids warmed up to him. Nikumbh, as I indicated in the previous question, is very motivated
and inspiring, which is why he instills "excitement" and enthusiasm in his students and, eventually, in his
coworkers.
6. What are the lessons on teacher leadership that are shown in the movie?
The journey of Teacher Nikumbh in the film is similar to what educators go through on a daily basis
because being a teacher entails experiencing both joy and hardship. His difficulties included obstacles
within the organization, issues with the curriculum, resources, and instruction. But he was able to
connect through to his students and draw the greatest performance out of Ishaan because of his strong
leadership skills, including knowledge, charm, and effectiveness both inside and beyond the classroom.
7. What are your own personal insights and reflection on these lessons? Write your REFLECTION
As a prospective teacher, I have much to learn from him. Teacher Nikumbh's story serves as a continual
reminder since I want to exude the same positive energy that he does in the film. I realized that I must
be a teacher-leader, not just a teacher. In order to have an impact on my pupils and ultimately motivate
them to become leaders themselves, I need to make sure that I am efficient, independent, and
inspirational enough. Moreover, because I can directly identify to it, I cried throughout the entire
movie. This is because I have a 5-year-old nephew who was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum
Disorder) and I am helping his mother in tutoring him. I want to be able to teach 2 years from now and
raise awareness about his condition and other learning and developmental conditions to avoid bullying
and foster love and appreciation to everyone who is diagnosed with these conditions because yes, I do
believe that every child, no matter who and what they are- is special.
