EMILIO AGUINALDO COLLEGE

UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

LEARNING TO BE A BETTER LEARNER

ASSIGNMENT

NAME: Raheja Ayushi Prakash

SECTION: BS BIO1-2

Directions.
◼ Make a movie reflection on “Every Child is Special” /
Taare Zameen Par ( 2007)

◼ Use the Gestalt Questions

◼ How am I beginning to think differently
◼ What I want to explore further
◼ Insights and Realization
(For each question it needs to be more than 5 sentences)
The movie is about an 8 year old boy Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary) who
finds it difficult to match his world of colors, kites and animals to that of
the others in his age group, who are more into studies and homework.
When complaints start to pour in, Ishaan’s parents decide to set him off to
a boarding school. His life is no different at the boarding school,
oppressed and insulted by his teachers, he remains the laugh stock of the
class. Now that he is away from home, he feels even more dejected,
inferior and finds it tough to cope up with his inabilities.Ram Shankar
Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) gets appointed as a temporary art teacher of the
boarding school. Unlike other teachers who follow definite norms in
educating children, Ram makes them think out of books, outside the four
walls of the classroom and paint their imaginations. Every child in class
responds with immense enthusiasm except Ishaan. Ram takes effort to
understand Ishaan and his problems. He makes Ishaan’s parents and other
teachers realize that he is not abnormal but a very special child with
talents of his own. With time, patience and care Ram succeeds in boosting
the confidence level of Ishaan. He helps Ishaan in overcoming his
inabilities and re-discover his lost confidence. Dyslexia is the central topic
and theme of the film.
After watching the movie my vision on my peer group and teachers is
changing slowly. From the movie I understood that every child is unique
and coding him based on only one aspect is wrong. Every child has its own
strengths and weaknesses. We should not only understand our peer group
but also help them to get better everyday and stop them from doing
anything unapproved. We should never judge any person based on their
grades or position in society. Every person is special and different from
others and they should be treated with the same respect and appreciation
for their knowledge like any other person deserves. Teachers should also
understand that a child is not considered intelligent only on the basis of
his/her grades but based on his/her thoughts and creativity he works
with. It's the teachers duty and responsibility to make children
understand their own uniqueness and help them boost their
self-confidence everyday instead of judging and comparing them with the
other children in the class.
This movie has inspired me to understand the mind of different people
and learn about how people perceive and present things. It made me think
about the working of psychology and inspired me to help people who lack
their expressing power and have a great thinking (creating) capacity. It
made me realise that everyone is unique but there are some people who
face problems to outstand the society that makes them mentally ill and
feel dejected. We should help them to fight their fears and present their
outcome so that they not only improve their creativity but also make
everyone proud.
