Hamdonia is a food-themed town that appears in the episodes "House Hunting" and "Much Tofu About Nothing."

Description[]

It is a town that Hamdonians live in. It has food houses and the ruler is Jolly King Pork Chop.

Role in series[]

"House Hunting"[]

The town has an event called "Hamdonia Hooray." It has joyful citizens who are having an all-smiles parade. Jolly King Pork Chop and his friends are having a good day until the Pointy Mouth of Doom destroys the town which is Patrick. The king sends guards to put a sausage in bread for the pointy mouth to eat and it turns out that the town is a puppet show.

However, Hamdonia is later revealed to be a real land when its citizens arrive at Patrick's house seeking revenge for his attacks on their kingdom.

"Much Tofu About Nothing"[]

When Jolly King Porkchop announces that his daughter Princess Hamhock shall be wed to Prince Shmeat, she objects to the arranged marriage as her heart belongs to the lowly Tofu Todd. Although against his daughter's choice, the king decides to hold a competition between Prince Shmeat and Tofu Todd in the field of combat to prove who is worthy of marrying his daughter. The battle draws the whole of Hamdonia's citizens who eagerly watch the match with Prince Shmeat clearly being the favorite and unfortunately Tofu Todd proves to be no match. To help her beloved win, Princess Hamhock dresses up as Tofu Todd and continues the match for him, eventually defeating Prince Shmeat. However, the ruse is soon discovered with the king declaring Shmeat to be the winner due to Tofu Todd's inability to prove his own might and honor.

The next day, Princess Hamhock and Prince Shmeat are about to be wed when suddenly the Pointy Mouth of Doom returns to devour everyone in the chapel, including Princess Hamhock and Tofu Todd, thus ending the wedding on a somber note. Fortunately, Squidina soon arrives and stops Patrick's voracious rampage and forces him to spit out the characters he swallowed, saving the princess and Tofu Todd who are happily reunited.

Trivia[]

Cultural references[]

  • Hamdonia's aesthetics and animation style are based on the rubber hose era of animation popularized during the 1930s by Max Fleischer, Ub Iwerks, Walt Disney and Tex Avery.
  • The kingdom is based on many whimsical depictions of food and object-themed kingdoms found across many stories and which were regularly used in many animated fantasy short films during the 1930s. However, the kingdom draws the most inspiration from the 1933 and 1935 Silly Symphony short films Old King Cole and The Cookie Carnival.
  • The habit of many Hamdonians muttering to themselves with their mouths closed is a homage to how characters in Fleischer cartoons, particularly those in Popeye the Sailor cartoons, would do the same thing.
