Splatoon (JP) is a third-person shooter video game series revolving around changing between squid and human form to help your team covering more turf with your ink than the adverse team. The Splatoon series is developed and published by Nintendo.
The announcement of the first Splatoon (on the Wii U) marked the emergence of the first new character-based IP from Nintendo EAD since the Pikmin series. It was extremely well recieved by the Nintendo fanbase and by the gaming industries, the sequel, Splatoon 2 even becoming one of the first Nintendo Switch games to be shown during the Switch presentation.

Manga[]
Since June 2015, a manga adaptation of Splatoon by Sankichi Hinodeya was published through the CoroCoro Comic magazine. The manga came westward starting with the first volume on December 12, 2017 by Viz Media.
An anime adaptation of the Splatoon manga by CoroCoro was announced on July 17, 2017. It started to air on August 12, 2017.
Legacy[]
Super Smash Bros. series[]
In the fourth and fifth entry, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, trophies of the Inkling as well as Mii costumes based on them were included as DLC.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Inklings were the first characters revealed, first seen in the March 8th, 2018 Nintendo Direct. A stage, Moray Towers, and an assist trophy of Callie and Marie were also added.
Mario Kart series[]
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Inklings were included as potential racers for the player to choose.
Super Mario Maker[]
In Super Mario Maker, 8-bits costumes of the Inklings as well as Callie and Marie are obtainable in the Wii U version.
Trivia[]
- If you Google a Splatoon game, you can see on the left of the screen that their is a bunch of colored ink splats. If you click on these, you will be able to squirt ink onto the screen.
