Early 2022 marked the 5-year anniversary of the Nintendo Switch. The biggest games in 2022 are Kirby and the Forgotten Land (March 25) released in celebration of Kirby's 30th anniversary, Splatoon 3 (September 9), two games in the Pokémon franchise - Pokémon Legends: Arceus (January 28) and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (November 18) - and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (July 29).

The biggest games in 2022 were Kirby and the Forgotten Land (March 25) and Kirby's Dream Buffet (August 17) released in celebration of Kirby's 30th anniversary, Splatoon 3 (September 9), Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (July 29) and two games in the Pokémon franchise: Pokémon Legends: Arceus (January 28), which ended the Eighth Pokémon generation and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (November 18), in which started the Ninth Pokémon generation. On November 29, Dragalia Lost was shut down after four years. The first three Booster Course Pass of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were also released featuring old and new tracks.

Pokémon released a web series based on Legends: Arceus, Pokémon: Hisuian Snow and a TV movie based on Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles, was released on January 2022. A new Pokémon variety show, PokéDoko premiered on April 3, succeeding Meet Up at the Pokémon House?. On June 9, Billy Kametz, Ferdinand von Aegir's voice actor died at 35. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes was released on June 24, 15 days after his death. Three Hopes marked the final Nintendo project Kametz involved. In August, Kirby and Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai launched his own YouTube channel named Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games. On November 14, Richter Belmont's Japanese voice actor in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kiyoyuki Yanada died at 57.
