The Last Story(JP) is a Wii video game developed by Mistwalker and published by Nintendo. Designed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, it has a similar name to his beloved franchise which, like this title, is a role-playing game. Unlike the Final Fantasy series, a Square Enix franchise, The Last Story was published by Nintendo. The game was released in Japan on January 27, 2011, in Europe on February 24, 2012, and in the U.S. August 14, 2012.
Alongside Xenoblade Chronicles and Pandora's Tower, a fan campaign dubbed as Operation Rainfall began on June 24, 2011 in an attempt to persuade Nintendo of America to localize these three games. On February 22, 2012, Nintendo of America had confirmed that The Last Story would be released in the United States by XSEED.
