My 1000th movie ! 🍿🙌🏻
This was one of my most anticipated films of all time. I’ve watched the trailer countless times. I have been a big fan of the black coats daughter movie from the same director. It was one of the film that introduced me to artsy horror. I was unbelievably hyped for this film but sadly I left this movie not as satisfied as I wanted to.
This film follows a socially weird kind of psychic FBI agent searching for a serial killer with every kill tied to an occult believe found in books and media. Sounds familiar ? Yes that’s very much true detective. I love Marika monroe and female focused lead fbi is one of my favourite things ever and an instant ticket buy for me. But this film just takes lots of stuff from a better media, even from silence of the lambs as well. The premise of the film made me scared cause I thought I had two occult film ideas similar to this but happily no. This film swifted into a complete different direction that I thought it would. In the trailer it gave me a cosmic horror or even analog horror vibe but in reality this film felt more like supernatural story with little serial killer scenes. It even has its fair share of jump scares.
The performances and the cinematography and atmosphere are the best parts of this film and manage to hide the lackluster story and sometimes cliche dialog in most sequences.
Still I hoped for more. I even eagerly made this my 1000th movie on Letterboxd. I thought this would be another best 2024 movie contender :(
