The hype for this was through the fucking roof. A great trailer, cool marketing(yes I called that #), and just all the early hype, set this waaaaay tf up. + the second I heard Nick Cage is playing this sadistic serial killer, I was sold.
That much hype can make a movie fall flat on its face and I’m happy to say, I really fucking dug it. Definitely check your expectations before going in because with how much it’s hyped, you may go in expecting something entirely different.
In the most simplest terms, you can say it’s a detective mystery, but one that really nails that concept masterfully and delves into an uncomfortably weird experience. Its disturbing as shit and will cut its way deep under your skin. Mostly leans in on the detective side to things, while still having a good amount of creep and landed the horror of it all pretty well. Highly effective and Nick Cage taps into some straight up evil with his performance. + it’s just shot beautifully and Osgood Perkins crafts something truly amazing. Maika Monroe gives us a fantastic performance thats unique compared to her other roles. From the opening scene to the ending scene, this lowkey blew me away. I was fully locked in and this deserves the success it hopefully gets. I can see this being thrown into my October rotation and it’s gonna %100 stay with me. Wow. ❌
