Cursed with the "scariest movie in a long time" moniker that journalists love to throw around won't do this any favours with those that love jump scares and bombast, but it does build up a sense of persistent dread that is quite unnerving. Some great direction and shot choices asks the audience to look to the background for the monster in the corner. That's not to say there aren't scares - a prolonged moment depicting Lee's realisation was incredibly jolting. The supernatural element of the story was handled well - as it could've been an awkward juxtaposition, and Cage as Longlegs does walk a fine line between scary and silly. I can see how some might find his performance over the top. That said I do wish we'd have seen more of him though.
