“Hail Satan!”
Going in to this, everyone made it seem like something it’s not. My expectations were ALSO not tailored properly. Because of that, it definitely took a little longer to get fully into it as I would’ve liked.
This is a phenomenal “horror” thriller. Everyone who called this a horror movie did not specify the subgenre category. It turned out to be one of my favourites! This is real life horror mixed in with some religious shit (I love it).
This movie definitely mixes both worlds of “Zodiac” and “Silence of the Lambs”. It kinda takes the best things about those two movies and mixes them up with some of Osgood’s own unique style.
This movie almost feels refreshing to its subject and style. There’s shit here that genuinely terrifies me. It’s rare that happens but when it does, I love it.
Nicholas Cage puts on a career highlight performance in my opinion. There’s not a single second of his performance where I can confidently say “that’s Nick Cage”. Seriously unreal.
Maika Monroe is also fantastic here. Never really seen or cared about anything else she’s done but she was great in this.
It definitely has its problems. On rewatch, knowing what it is, I can guarantee a raised rating. This shit was so fire.
