Summary[]
When Yunyun chides Megumin for making flag statements, the other adventurers guarding the caravan come asking for the Crimson Magic Clan masters' help against the attacking monsters. The flattered Megumin accepts the request, only to be freaked out alongside Yunyun by how disgusting one of the many Giant Earthworms bursting out of the ground to loom over them is. Stopping the panicked Megumin from casting Explosion because it will hit everybody around them, Yunyun shoots a Fireball which defeats the monster in one hit, so the impressed adventurers then ask her to deal with the many more Giant Earthworms remaining.
As the caravan continues its journey along the highway, the caravan leader and other travelers express their gratitude to Yunyun who managed to defeat all the Giant Earthworms. A Megumin jealous at all the praise heaped at Yunyun proceeds to boast at the little girl traveling with her about how it is she who is the strongest, following which she glimpses the shadow of something flying after the caravan.
That evening after the caravan sets up camp, Yunyun is treated to a lot of food for recuperating her powers, while Megumin gets irate at being mistaken as her little sister. Later on, Yunyun tells Megumin how she is happy that she was able to help out and that people relied on her, before confidently declaring her intent to learn Advanced Magic. But just as Yunyun asks Megumin if she can join a party with her, a Giant Bat swoops in to capture Chomusuke. During the ensuing attack by a swarm of Giant Bats, Yunyun manages to defeat them alone and rescue Chomuske, though at the expense of her magical powers. The other travelers again thank Yunyun, with the adventurers even inviting her to join their party, while expressing skepticism over the competency of Megumin who didn't help at all, much to her annoyance.
As the caravan continues their journey the following day, Megumin tells the little girl who wondered if she fought monsters at all how her magic is more of a last resort that she keeps for really powerful adversaries. But soon after Megumin assures her that there won't be any more monster attacks, Yunyun and the other adventurers have to repel a Goblin attack, which leaves Yunyun quite exhausted and almost out of magic.
Just as Megumin pretends that she did do something to help, Arnes shows up and attacks the carriages in the middle of the wilderness where nobody can come help, before demanding her hand over Chomusuke or return the money. Having already used up the money yet still refusing to part with Chomuske, Megumin tells Arnes she won't give in to her intimidation, as deals with Demons can be totally ignored or broken. The annoyed Arnes, who states that humans can't be trusted as they always make excuses to shirk from paying their part when the deal is done, then points out how Yunyun doesn't have enough magical power left to fight, in addition to mocking Megumin for her inability to use magic, since she had never cast a spell throughout all the monster attacks. As Megumin realises how Arnes had sent all those monsters at them, Arnes is joyous for paying her back for all the humiliation suffered. Knocking out an adventurer who tries to attack her, she next readies herself as the rest of the other adventures charge forward.
It so happened that several days following Megumin's departure from Arcanletia, the sad Cecily heard Zesta proclaiming how he received a divine broadcast from their patron goddess Aqua, in which she asked to borrow money from her follower. Detecting that the revelation came from the direction of Axel, Zesta decided to send somebody there for investigation, so abiding by the teachings of the Axis Church, Cecily volunteered to go.
