Differences Between Original WEBTOON[]

While the printed version of Hooky is largely similar to the digital version, there are a quite few differences between the two. A majority of these changes are altered dialogue, fixing typos and grammar errors, reformatting of panels, and cutting some content.

Miriam explained in an Instagram post on February 3rd, 2021 that the first sixty pages of the book are redrawn with new art, due to her losing the original files of the first episodes after changing laptops. Because of this, chapters one through six are almost all complete redone episodes one through twelve.

As the graphic novel is being published under HarperCollins' Clarion Books label, it is being marketed towards a younger demographic than the original WEBTOON. Therefore, much of the violence and suggestive themes are toned down, and cursing is either censored or removed all together.

Some differences of note between the original WEBTOON release and the print version include:

  • In early episodes of the original webcomic, whenever witches cast spells aloud their speech bubbles included glyph text. In the book, these are removed.
  • Episode 38 was removed entirely, due to it being a one-off Christmas special unrelated to the current story.
  • Episode 51 was removed entirely, likely due to it deviating from the main story, and being more violent than other episodes.
  • All instances and mentions of the Huntsman are removed from the print version. This leads to large chunks of original episodes being removed or reworked around the plot hole, as well as anything in connection to the Huntsman, such as Snow White and the Dwarves.
    • Interestingly enough, in volume 2 of the print version of Hooky, the Huntsman is present.
  • Some episodes heavily featuring Mark were either reworked or cut in the graphic novel. This may have been due to the lower age rating for the novel, and the publishers may have thought Dani's crush on Mark was inappropriate.
