Joe Verrengia (Democratic Party) was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing District 20. He assumed office in 2011. He left office on January 6, 2021.
Verrengia (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Connecticut House of Representatives to represent District 20. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Biography
Verrengia was raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and is a graduate of the local public school system. He went on to graduate from Northeastern University and has served on the West Hartford police force for 21 years. He is a town councilman, serving on the Budget and Finance, Administration and Technology, and Education Liaison committees. Verrengia has also served as a commissioner to the Metropolitan District Commission.[1]

Elections for the Connecticut House of Representatives consisted of a primary election on August 12, 2014, and a general election on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 10, 2014. Incumbent Joe Verrengia was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Andrew McDermott was unopposed in the Republican primary. Verrengia was unopposed in the general election after McDermott was removed from the ballot.[3][4]

Verrengia ran in the 2012 election for Connecticut House of Representatives District 20. Verrengia ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on August 14, 2012. He defeated Chad Thompson (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[5][6][7][8]

Verrengia defeated Allen Hoffman (R) in the February 22, 2011 special election.[9]

Noteworthy events
Verrengia suspended from public safety committee after charged with DUI
Rep. Joe Verrengia was suspended indefinitely from the state House's Public Safety Committee after lawmakers charged him with driving under the influence.
“Rep. Verrengia recognizes the seriousness of the situation, but the fact remains he made a poor decision that put people at risk," House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz (D) said in a statement. "Though thankfully no one was hurt, in light of these circumstances and as he deals with the legal and personal ramifications, I have suspended Rep. Verrengia from his chairmanship of the public safety committee.”[10]
Verrengia declined to comment on the charges.[10]
Verrangie was restored as co-chairman of the Public Safety Committee in January 2020.[11]
