The Crystal Wyvern is a Creature in ARK: Survival Evolved's Expansion Map Crystal Isles.
Basic Info[]
Behavior[]
Crystal Wyverns are passive unless provoked by any means. Heirs on the other hand, are extremely aggressive and will give chase at anything it sees.
Appearance[]
Crystal Wyverns appear very similar to what one would assume to be a stereotypical dragon. There are three different types of Crystal Wyverns, each with small but distinguishable variations in size, shape and color.
Each variant has a distinct color palette that resembles their respective biomes. Blood Crystal Wyverns appear with much more of a reddish hue compared to Ember Crystal Wyverns, which are more yellowish.
Color Scheme and Regions This section displays the Crystal Wyvern's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Crystal Wyvern. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Crystal Wyvern will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.
This information can be used to alter the Crystal Wyvern's regions by entering cheat SetTargetDinoColor <ColorRegion> <ColorID>
in the cheat console. For instance, cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6
would color the Crystal Wyvern's "body main" magenta.

Wild Stats Level-up
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1]
The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Combat[]
General[]
While the regular Crystal Wyvern only attacks when provoked through hitting it, the Crystal Wyvern Heir is highly territorial and fierce in defending its perceived airspace and its nest. It also has a notably more powerful bite; quite possibly the most dangerous challenge you can face short of a boss-level creature. To add on to the difficulty of attempting escape, the speed it possess outmatches even the regular Wyvern and seems to even rival a Griffin.
Strategy[]
You can tame Crystal Wyverns either by passive tame with Primal Crystals (best), or normal Crystal. Put the crystal in your rightmost slot and walk approach to Wyvern and press E, , . Primal crystals can be obtained by tranquilizing any of the wyverns and taking the crystals. They will be hostile when they wake up, so either kill them after taking crystals, or move out of range. The Heir wyverns (near the desert caverns) cannot be tamed and are hostile, but they are good for providing Primal Crystals. They also lay eggs in nests around the OUTSIDE of the desert cavern area that will hatch normal crystal wyverns of the various types.
Weaponry[]
Dangers[]
All Crystal Wyverns have a different breath attack as follows:
Ember Crystal Wyverns fire a longer-ranged but narrower fiery breath which does more overall damage which increases the more the fire breath is used consecutively (it turns more blue as it gets stronger).
Blood Crystal Wyverns fire a mid-range blood stream which deals decent damage and siphons health over time to all targets hit (inflicting "Blood Cursed!" effect at target whilst adding "Blood Curse Recovery!" to itself), healing the Blood Crystal Wyvern, it is also capable healing itself by eating corpses (80 health each bite), similar to Argentavis.
Tropical Crystal Wyverns fire a long range jet of water with high knockback and mediocre damage with "Scalded!" effect which reduces both HP and Stamina. They are additionally buffed by water similarly to Spinos.
It should be noted that all Crystal Wyverns other than Alpha and Heir variants are passive unless provoked, so it is advisable that unless the survivor is ready to fight them to leave them alone.
Weakness[]
The Crystal Wyverns have a notable weakness; and that is that every wyvern is weak against members of its own variant, so use this, and you'll get a substantial advantage. (They are also known to get bugged into trees, so if you're really in a pickle, run into the nearest forested area.)
Taming[]
For general information about domesticating a wild creature see Taming.
There are two ways of garnering a Crystal Wyvern: Either through raising from a stolen eggs from Heir variant of Crystal Wyverns from their nest (this can be circumvented with breeding two tamed/raised wyverns of the same variant), or passive taming them from anywhere with Crystal or Primal Crystal (the latter is quicker and more effective, but the former is entirely feasible).
Taming Food[]
Preferred Food[]
Passive Tame Strategy[]
Crystal Wyverns (except Heirs and Alphas) can be tamed non-violently, rather than through the use of tranquilizers. They can be fed with Crystal or Primal Crystal while nearby. Do be warned that they tend to fly fast, which makes it difficult to tame them without causing aggression. Using this way requires the survivor to be a minimum of level 65 in order to feed Crystal Wyverns; lower than that will prevent the survivor from actually feeding it. By placing a large creature in front of it, the player is able to jump on its back where it can remain with out moving and able to feed while the wild wyvern flies around making the tame of it very fast. Alternately, a survivor can use a Grappling Hook to be carried with the Crystal Wyvern as it flies; however, this method can be risky, as the survivor will take some damage as it weaves around. (It is strongly suggested Parachute be on the hotbar, or a Glider Suit Skin (Aberration) on the armor, for those daring enough to attempt this!). You can also pin them down with dino gates and feed them as needed. A wyvern trapped against some trees and a few dino gates is an easy tame target. A great way is to jump on their back between their shoulders then sit there while taming make sure to have parachutes in case you fall off, To get up jump on wings then jump up to shoulders. If you're using normal crystals it's highly suggested to only tame up to the level 90 Wyverns or below because the taming might not be effective enough for it to succeed before the taming bar starts to reduce again. Using this method it could need you from 32 up to 90 crystals to tame a level 90 Wyvern, depending on what kind of setting you are playing at.
Raising[]
Baby wyverns cannot be fed Raw Meat like most other carnivores; however, their food drops a lot slower. They require Primal Crystal to increase their food and may ask for it when imprinting. Primal Crystal gives 350 and NOT 1200 food to the baby Crystal Wyvern. A growing baby Wyvern will consume approximately 1 unit of food every 10 seconds, or 360 units of food an hour. This means that one feeding of Primal Crystal will sustain a baby Crystal Wyvern for about 58 minutes. As a Crystal Wyvern matures it eats slower like all dinos (ie. at 80% maturation, a Crystal Wyvern consumes about 1 food every 30 seconds).
Primal Crystal is obtained by knocking out a Crystal Wyvern, and the Crystal is simply harvested from the unconscious body. The amount of crystal inside the wyvern varies on their level, with higher levels more likely to have more crystal grown on it. It's possible to build cages in which to trap Crystal Wyverns to make harvesting them easier. Be aware that re-knocking out a trapped crystal Wyvern does not give any more crystal immediately. Crystal Wyverns regenerate their lost crystal every hour.
An important detail about newly hatched Crystal Wyverns (especially at lower levels) is that even though the maximum food stated in the creature's statistics might be several thousand, the maximum food the baby can actually hold might be less than 350 (the amount of food one Primal Crystal delivers). This means that lower level baby Wyverns will never eat crystal on their own, and will have to be force fed Primal Crystal until they can actually hold more than 350 food.
WARNING: Transferring crystal wyverns off of crystal isles will change the color of the crystals on their head. The crystal will always change to the body color of the dragon. For example, any crystal wyvern with a black body and red crystals will wind up with black crystals, or a green-bodied wyvern with blue crystals will wind up with green crystals.
Utility[]
Roles[]
- Titan Killer: Bring a large army of blood crystal wyverns to quickly drain a titan's health (incredibly useful against the King Titan). It's best to bring a swarm of 25 health-bred blood crystal wyverns.
- All around Transport: Any wyvern, preferably tropical for the added speed. Little bit of weight, some stamina, and some health. You want them to be able to take hits just in case someone decides to attack you.
- Scouting Mount: Mostly only level stamina and health so you can escape if someone spots you and attacks. best for this is tropical wyvern
- Turkey Killer: the Blood variant can do good damage to Super Turkeys and heal at the same time. Super Turkeys have no damage reduction to its breath attack.
- Magmasaur breeding: while Magmasaur needs 2 fire wyverns to breed on lava-less maps such as Ab or Val, they only need 1 ember wyvern due to double range of it's breath attack

Spotlight[]
Notes[]
- Crystal Wyverns are the third creature whose eggs can be stolen and bred from wild parents. The first being the Deinonychus and the second being the Magmasaur.
- Crystal Wyverns are faster and have a tighter turning radius (faster turning) than their normal Wyvern counterparts. However, their bite attack does less damage and their attack speed is slower.
- Despite the Tropical Crystal Wyvern having water breath and getting water buffs it cannot swim in water.
- Crystal Wyverns are one of the two creatures that has more than one way of taming other than breeding (Passive Taming and Egg Stealing), the other one being the Diplodocus.
- Prior to patch 311.209, Crystal Wyverns were non-transferable, non-cryo-freezable and non-cloneable.
- Unlike normal Wyverns, Crystal Wyverns are affected by the Yutyrannus' fear roar, so it's best to be cautious around them.
- The Crystal Wyvern is 25% smaller than normal Wyvern.
- Unlike the Wyvern, the Crystal Wyvern's breath attack will not hurt allies.
- When a Crystal Wyvern Heir dies, its helmet will disappear.
- You can only force-feed normal Crystal to a tamed Crystal wyvern when it's landed, but they will eat it on their own even during flight if they are hungry and have no other food available.
- The Crystal Wyvern Heir cannot be tamed by force or otherwise, however can be controlled by Noglin, allowing you to temporarily ride it.
- Some Crystal Wyverns will Glow depending what color they are at night.
- The wings of the Tropical Crystal can get a shine multi-coloured hologram like effect.
- If a dermis is collected from any variant of crystal wyvern, the placed dermis will always have orange eyes like those of a Fire Wyvern.
- Going near a non-heir, non-boss crystal wyvern when you are under level 65 causes the game to crash. This can be fixed by turning off HUD
