AngGuro (Reflection Paper)

Hindi lahat ng kaalaman sa libro nagmumula, kung hindi sa PUSO… sa PUSO ng isang GURO. –
Ang Guro
This line is my favorite when I finally watch the stage play “Ang Guro”. A lot of things that I
finally understand and it are cleared to my mind. Why the course education is the most important of all
kinds of courses.

In this stage play, the casts show us the different kinds of teaching techniques. As a future
educator, at last I know that teaching is not easy if this is not your passion. In teaching, make sure that
your love and heart are included because the future of the students depends on you.

And also they show us the ineffective teaching model. We don’t need to be like them. Example
of this characteristic are: The teachers terrorize their students, they give them the punishment which is
not right. The classroom is like a sari-sari store. The teachers collect the imported things of their
students because they are insecure. Sometimes the teachers are insulting their students that can cause
an offense to them. And the most of all they’re become lazy when it comes in teaching.

In “Ang Guro” show, I like the role of Ms. Karel Marquez. She is a very good and effective
teacher. Although she knows that her students are hard-headed, and have a heavy problem in their life.
She never quit in giving them an advices, in helping them in their problems (family or in subjects), and
she still continue teaching her students in a proper ways. She teach them why having a good moral
character is important, having a self-confidence, a courage to ourselves, and be strong in every
challenges in life. She said that, “Learn to accept our discomfiture, we learn from our own mistake.”
“Don’t let their words stop you in fulfilling your dreams.” We can do this, just trust God. God helps us all
the time.

As a future educator, I’ll make sure that all characteristic of effective teaching model is I have.
And I will apply it to my students someday. I teach them until they know the lesson exactly. Because I
know that Education is a treasure that no one can plunder to you. That’s why I’m so thankful to all my
teachers for sharing their knowledge to me. And I’m proud that Education is my course, because without
educators there’s no doctors, engineers, nurses, etc. I’ve learn that mistakes can often be as good a
teacher as success.

The “Ang Guro” show was such a great story. It gives us an inspiration and courage to continue
fulfills our dreams, to become one of the Educators someday.

We must be hard-working, determinant, and be obedient in our studies, because education is a

key to success.

As a teacher, what can you do about the situation of the children?

“Experience is the best teacher.” If we are talking about the experiences of the teachers here in
Philippines, I might say that we are the best. We know that education is important us. Education is the
process of learning. Education is not a preparation of life; Education is life itself.

We know that education is the solution to have a better future. But if we can inspect the situation of the
education of the Filipino Youth in our country, we can see that almost half of the populations in
Philippines are belong to the association who’s not capable on going to school. Here are some reasons
why they need to stop their studies: 1. Lack of Basic Needs especially the food- the parents did not give
the proper nutrition of the children. That’s why when they are entering to the school every day without
eating their breakfast meal, most of them are not in their concentration. They choose to go home so
early than to study in 6 to 7 hours. In this case, Grade 1 is the Dropout Rate in stop schooling. 2. The
Filipino children enter to working force early- at the age of 6, a child is usually made to work to help his
or her family. They choose to have a work or to help their family than to study because they want to
continue supporting their Basic Needs. 3. The Government Service- most of the time, the Government
Service did not reach the unfrequented place in our country. 4. The Environment- if the families are in
the slum area, the children has a possibility to stop their schooling. Because most of the parents in slum
area has a lot of sons and daughters. They did not afford the formal education due to very high cost of
tuition. They don’t have exact money to avail all the educational expenses. Lack of Education- Sixty
percent (60%) of children in the elementary grades stops schooling because they cannot afford the high
cost of education. And also lack of school supplies like textbooks, papers, pencils and others. Also the
classrooms and chairs is not enough for the children in unfrequented place.

There’s a time that we are lack of teachers not just because that the places are unfrequented or
the place is too far from the city. But just because of the people who are graduated in Bachelor in
Elementary and Secondary Education courses and they did not pass or did not already take the Licensure
Exams for Teacher. According to Mrs. France Castro the secretary of General Alliance of Concerned
Teachers (ACT), we have a law that we need to follow. This is the Teachers Professionalization Law
which means that “No teachers should be allowed to teach without passing the Licensure Exam”. But we
still have a lot of volunteer teachers even though they are not a Board Passers. They do this because
they want to teach and share their knowledge to the children, especially those children who are not
capable on going to school. But the question is.You as a teacher, what can you do about the situation of
the children in our country?

Public or Private School is the second home of the children. But just because of the poor country
and poor families, the education of the children is become foreclose. That’s why a lot of children choose
to stop their schooling.

We all familiar the situations of the Filipino Youth in our country, but as a teacher I can do all I
Can just to give them a better future someday. I can be a volunteer teacher if I have an opportunity to
assign in the unfrequented place. I will give them a different material that they can use in their studies.
For example, school supplies like papers, pencil and textbooks. And I teach them in a ways that they can
understand me in an easy way. Although we know that the Government is the most responsible in the
education of the children. Me as a teacher, I want to consult and convince the other foundations or to
get the Yes of my religion just to help the other Filipino Youth. Because we have a feeding program, a
medical mission, a tree planting and other activities. Teachers are also can be a nurse, sisters, and a
second mother because teachers are all around. And you as a human being you also have a right to
teach them. When you know that you have a knowledge, skill, and talent. All we have to do is to help
others, if we are totally known that they need our help.

We need that the parents, the students, and the members of the community are uniting in one
objective to give the better future to the Filipino Youth. Because I believe that Education is one of the
means in poverty allocation. And if a person is educated, in the end he or she has a good, better and
best future.

The children are the expectant of the community. And the future of the students is depends to the
teacher. Being a good teacher is a role model to the children, that’s why we want them to have a good
life someday. We teach them all the positive ways to know what’s right and wrong. Because become a
good child is a role model to the others.

Narrative Report

On the 7th day of August 2012 (Tuesday), it was my first date of observation in J.P. Melencio
Memorial Elementary School. It is located at Barangay Dicarma, Cabanatuan City. But suddenly, that
time it has a low pressure area that can cause a suspension of classes. That’s why I had to make up my
observation in a following week.

August 13th, 2012 is considering as my first observation. Merliz Geronimo, Lea Mae Andres,
Kaye Lapitan and I are the members of the group who assigned in J.P.Melencio Memorial Elementary
School. We are assigned in a first grader, we observed the school facilities, classrooms, the learners of
Grade One, and the method and strategy that be done by the teacher. And to my surprised, I notice that
it was very effective school.

In school facilities, we observed the every buildings and every school garden of the school. We
saw that it was very clean and neat. In Math, Science and Kabayanihan Park, it has a lot of wall displays
that helps the learner in gathering information. In Office of the Principal, Library, Home Economics
Room, and Industrial Workshop Area, are very organized and clean. Even in the cafeteria, it is organized,
clean, and lots of nutritious food. The comfort room for boys and girls is obviously clean because it is
good to our health if we had a clean environment. This school environment is effective and it’s good for
the development of the learner.

The classroom that I observed is the room of Mrs. MarivicPerida, she is the adviser of Grade
One section Five. Her classroom facilities are very organized and clean. From the wall displays,
blackboard, Teacher’s table, Learner’s desks, and Learning Materials/Visual Aids are still organized. They
clean their room in beginning and ending of the classes. Her classroom is effective because it has
innovative materials that she used for teaching.

The learners are attending the classes on time because they are interested in every lesson that the
teachers discussed. Their relationship with their classmates is like a sisters and brothers, and the
interaction with their teacher are behave and well-discipline. Some of the students can perform well but
the others are not. That’s why the teacher gives them a special treatment to know exactly the lesson. All
the learners are kind, but some of them are noisy and don’t like to listen that’s why they need more
help.

I also observed the method and strategy used by the teacher. My resource teacher was
effective. She provides tangible materials for learning in order to understand the lesson easily. She is the
second mother of her students. Her students always asked her help because they still can’t stand alone.
She is willing to give her full attention to the students who need more help because she wants that
student can learn from her.

I can say that J.P. Melencio Memorial Elementary School was an example of effective school
environment. The teachers are kind and good to their co-teachers and students. They love their students
so much. They never neglect their students because they believe that “Best Teacher for Good
Education.”
