I-WITNESS: ‘ARAL NG PAG-ASA,’ DOKUMENTARYO NI SANDRA AGUINALDO

As I watched the documentary, I realized that I need to be grateful for who I am and what
I have today; a roof above my head, a bed to sleep in and food on the table. I am beyond blessed
because I have a supportive, loving and caring family. This documentary makes me realize and
serves an eye opener on what the real world can be. Based on the documentary, there is a teacher
name called Mr. Ruel Petero, a SPED teacher in Nabua Central Pilot School which is located to
Camarines Sur, a school that offers special education for person’s that has disabilities.

I could say that being a SPED Teacher is one of most exciting and challenging profession
that you could ever ask, it is really a huge responsibility for the teacher to teach the children
especially those children who are in special needs. Being a SPED teacher is challenging and you
should posses qualities such as patient, bravery, determiantion, innovative and enthusiastic etc.
and it requires love and understanding to catch the behavior and attention of your students. As a
future teacher, I want to promote inclusion to my students and to be placed them in a regular
classroom. I realized that if I’m already a teacher if I will leave those kind of students behind,
who will be going to help them, people will definitely discriminate them, people just only look at
them but I must say that all the people has the responsibility to them and as a future teacher think
what is these children needs to be provided. Being a teacher will not stay on just a teacher
because you will be their second parent and someone that a child can talk to when they have
problems in their life. You’re one of the most important roles in the development and progress of
your students during they are in the four corners of the classroom. Every single scene in the
video touches my heart because of the situation of these students who are willing to study and
help their parents in the future. I salute Teacher Ruel, Teacher Leah and Teacher Lalaine for their
encouragement, hard work, long patience and perseverance to go to the school and provide the
needs of their students. One thing that I can be proud of these SPED teachers is they are not
thinking about their salary anymore on how much they will earn when they are teaching these
student and that makes me realize that I should not minding as well these kind of things if I
become a teacher someday. I think that it is your job to help and influence your students to
achieve their dreams whatever those maybe regardless of their differences.
In conclusion, people with disabilities are still people and we need to respect and accept
them, they are people with hearts and they are actual physical beings; they are a piece of art of
God that make us all unique and people with disabilities do their best to live every day to their
fullest, even they are hurt and in pain sometimes but still they are living their dreams. As a future
educator, I shall accept and respect all the children that I will encounter in the future no matter
what situation they have and I should be the one to change the world for them and they will not
adjust for the others. By teaching them I will grow and develop not only becoming a teacher but
also a human being that understand those persons with disabilities and to fulfill the main purpose
of being teacher. We need to give them access to education because education of a child is not a
privilege but it is their rights to have and we need to educate also the parents and the community
on how to foster these dreams of the children and let them know that their dreams are valid and
they are capable regardless of their exceptionalities.
