Although it had been occupied for over ten thousand years by indigenous peoples, from the 18th century onward, European powers considered the territory of Alaska ripe for exploitation and trade. The United States purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire on March 30, 1867, for 7.2million U.S. dollars at approximately two cents per acre ($4.74/km2). The area went through several administrative changes before becoming organized as a territory on May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.
From Apartment Life to Living on a Sailboat in Alaska! Sailing & Cruising Liveaboards
Megan and Rob are a pair of adventure seekers who are working hard to create the life of their dreams: living on a sailboat and exploring Alaska, working online and starting their own filmmaking company. The couple bought a sailboat in April 2015 up in Juneau, Alaska and they've been living on it ever since. Surviving Alone in Alaska
Heimo Korth is the last man standing in 19 million acres of Alaskan wilderness. His neighbors are polar bears and caribous. Say good bye to civilization and see how they do it in the arctic circle on the last frontier in America.
In 1980, Jimmy Carter established the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the Alaskan Interior, cutting off 19 million acres of prime boreal wilderness from the mitts of fur trappers, oil tycoons, and would-be lodge owners alike. Only six families of white settlers were grandfathered in and allowed to keep cabins in the refuge—of them, only one still stays there year-round living off the land. His name is Heimo Korth, and he is basically the Omega Man of Americas Final Frontier.

Megan and Rob are a pair of adventure seekers who are working hard to create the life of their dreams: living on a sailboat and exploring Alaska, working online and starting their own filmmaking company. All while continuing to actively explore their surroundings on bikes, in kayaks, in wetsuits, and hanging from climbing ropes.
The couple bought a sailboat in April 2015 up in Juneau, Alaska and they've been living on it ever since. For the first couple of years they plan to stay docked in Juneau during the week so that Megan can work at her job as a dental hygienist, while Rob has already secured location independent online work, working for a soil and water testing company. Once they've paid down their student debt, and paid off the boat, they plan to sail around the world. For now, they explore on the weekends and when they're on vacation.
They've made a lot of changes to their boat, a 1979 Cal 31 #10 hull, to turn it into a cozy little home. Megan sewed a canvas bimini top for their cockpit to provide shade, they installed flexible solar panels and a small wind turbine to create their own power, and they added a Kimberly wood stove to keep the boat toasty, warm, and dry in the winter months.
Living on a sailboat isn't without it's challenges. The couple had no idea how to sail when they bought their boat, so they spent quite a lot of time during their first year afloat learning how to sail. They also say the cold weather can be quite challenging because the boat is always damp inside. It's important to be flexible and easy going in order to be successful at living aboard a sailboat, Megan says. You can't have too many expectations or be attached to deadlines.
On a recent month-long trip, Venture Lives had beautiful adventures sailing to Skagway, Glacier Bay, and hiking the Chilkoot Trail.

Incarcerated between these worlds
Reality seems to loose its hold
We hide away and try to fill the space between these thoughts
Detached from everything that lives and breathes
Emotions just words on a screen
So fabricated is the life we lead
So fabricated is the life we lead
Side by side
You’ll watch the whole world pass you by
An affliction, this addiction
Side by Side
Out of sight, you’re out of mind
So obsessed with imitation
Stuck Living in this cycle of vanity
Will self loathing even matter if they're calling your name
Call my name
When happiness is so dependant on shallow words
Spoken from the mouths of introverts
Measuring your own self worth
Feeding your anxieties
They’ll throw you to the wolves
At the slightest hint of weakness
Just don't let it defeat us
Turn a blind eye
Why should you give a fuck
What they say
I'll never give a
Fuck what they say
Your judgements preconceived of me
Don't waste your life living a lie
Worthless lie

LYRICS:
Incarcerated between these worlds
Reality seems to loose its hold
We hide away and try to fill the space between these thoughts
Detached from everything that lives and breathes
Emotions just words on a screen
So fabricated is the life we lead
So fabricated is the life we lead
Side by side
You’ll watch the whole world pass you by
An affliction, this addiction
Side by Side
Out of sight, you’re out of mind
So obsessed with imitation
Stuck Living in this cycle of vanity
Will self loathing even matter if they're calling your name
Call my name
When happiness is so dependant on shallow words
Spoken from the mouths of introverts
Measuring your own self worth
Feeding your anxieties
They’ll throw you to the wolves
At the slightest hint of weakness
Just don't let it defeat us
Turn a blind eye
Why should you give a fuck
What they say
I'll never give a
Fuck what they say
Your judgements preconceived of me
Don't waste your life living a lie
Worthless lie
Incarcerated between these worlds
Incarcerated between these worlds
These worlds
Alessia and I first met at rehearsals for the HALO awards, where Alessia, Daya and I performed together. I’ve loved her songs before but realized that she’s an unbelievable talent when we started rehearsing together so I asked her if she was interested in making music with me.
