Cooking is a mechanic debuting in Phoenotopia: Awakening. With a cookable Consumable Item equipped, players can initiate the cooking mini-game by interacting with a fire.

Requirement[]

Fire[]

A fire is required to initiate the cooking process. They only appear in specific locations, but one can almost always be found near any Save Shrine.

Fire comes in three varieties:

  • House Fire: Is always lit and ready to be used
  • Campfire: Requires kindling to start the fire
  • Stove Fire: Requires hitting a nearby switch to start the fire

For campfire, there is often a flint found nearby that can produce the spark needed for kindling. Alternatively, fire from Refurbished Crank Lamp, Spear Bomb, and Rocket Boots can be used instead.

Cooking Pan[]

By default, Gail carries around her own cooking pan. As the game process, players would encounter a character named Astrid. By fulfilling her request, players would be rewarded with the Antique Cast Iron, which provides the leniency of three extra inputs for the cooking process.

With an ingredient equipped, players can initiate the cooking mini-game by interacting with a fire. Ingredients are cooked one stack at a time, allowing multiple identical Consumable Items to be cooked at once.

After initiating the cooking process, the cooking interface would show up with some information:

  • The number of successful inputs required to complete the process
  • A horizontal bar that a cursor with a button prompt travels back and forth along
  • The time remaining for the cooking process

To successfully enter an input, players have to press the correct button prompted on the cursor when they travel near the central region of the horizontal bar. The button prompts are randomised for each cooking process to be one of the four face button ( A / B / X / Y ).

If the required number of inputs are entered before time runs out, the cooking process is completed and the equipped ingredient would transform into a new Consumable Item. Failing the process, however, would yield players the corresponding amount of "Food", which is not safe for human consumption and would damage Gail if she insists on eating that.

The difficulty of the cooking process depends on the ingredient chosen, and is reflected by how many inputs are required as well as how fast the cursor is moving along the horizontal bar. Generally, the more difficult the cooking process is, the powerful the resultant food would become.

Effect[]

When an ingredient is cooked, their various statistics are often improved. This includes increasing the amount of health it restores, reducing its consumption time, and occasionally increasing the maximum carry size to allow for more compact storage.

Trivia[]

  • As informed by the store clerk, cooking Pristine Roses would actually reduce their healing potency, so this ingredient is best consumed directly
  • Dried Cacti Bark and Prickle Fruit take the longest and shortest time to cook respectively, and both can be found in the Sand Drifts region
  • Mystery Meat and Prickle Fruit are the only ingredients that can cooked more than once
  • Cooking a full stack of Golden Eggs would increase the amount they heal by 76 HP and the amount they can be recycled for by 60 RIN, both being the highest in the game
    • The second-most increase in healing potency per stack is Nutri-Food, increasing by 48 HP
    • The second-most increase in recycle value per stack is Arboar Meat, increasing by 16 RIN
