Bart is a character in Phoenotopia: Awakening who replaces Billy as Gail's Stellanite guide throughout the game. His role in the game's story is mostly similar to that of Billy in Phoenotopia; unlike Billy, however, Bart's intentions are pure and he cares deeply for the safety of Earth. Thus, he remains a protagonist throughout the entirety of the game.

Description[]

Bart is a high-ranking member of the Stellanites, a space-travelling race made up of descendants of the humans' ancestors who used starships to flee Earth and search for a new planet to live on after the Great War ended with an entire city being razed into oblivion by Phoenixes. As with his fellow Stellanites, Bart is a tall humanoid with blue skin and pointy ears.

Bart claims to be good at hacking and diplomacy, but this proves to be untrue when he tries to utilize these skills in the Royal Archives.

History[]

Bart's Golem head is first discovered by Gail in Anuri Temple, effectively defunct due to the damage it sustained when it crashed on Earth. The Golem head is later repaired by Thomas after Gail brings it to his lab and explains what happened in Panselo, finally allowing Bart to make contact with the humans and inform them that Earth is in danger of an alien invasion. He asks to be taken to Daea so he can warn the king of the city about the invasion, so Gail and Thomas bring him to Daea's castle where Thomas tries to convince the guards to let the trio through, but they don't budge. Worried that the castle has already been infiltrated, Bart suggests they go to an inn to rethink their strategy, and tries to help Gail and Thomas brainstorm ideas on how to get into the castle. Thomas mentions a secret underground canal but doesn't know much about it, so he suggests they spend the night in the inn so they can rest up. Bart fears that this will cost them valuable time to stop the invasion, but begrudgingly agrees that they can afford to spare just one night...but no more. Unfortunately, while they're sleeping, soldiers break into the inn and drag Thomas away...

The next morning, Bart frantically tells Gail about what happened to Thomas, and urges her to find a way into the castle and try to rescue the scientist. Bart suggests that Gail try looking into the secret canal that Thomas had mentioned the night before, and informs Gail that from this point on she can talk to him to get hints on what to do next by selecting his Golem head from the Quest menu. After following Bart's advice, Gail gains access to the Aqua Line, breaks into the castle's dungeon, rescues Thomas, Sir Max, and some other friendly guards who were imprisoned by the evil ones, and storms the White Towers to take the castle back from the Kobolds that infiltrated it. After rescuing Prince Leo from the Kobolds' leader Katash, Gail brings Thomas, Leo, and Bart back to Panselo.

After some discussion with the prince, Bart decides it's time he told his friends everything. Gathering all the adults in the village around, Bart reveals that he is a Stellanite and explains how Stellanites are distant cousins of Earth humans, as they are the descendants of the ancient humans who took to the stars after the Great War. He then explains how the Stellanites are allies of a benevolent galactic superpower, the Galactic Federation, which is at odds with its power-hungry counterpart, the Astral Empire. Bart reveals that the Astral Empire is the impending alien threat that he's come to Earth to warn people about, and tells the group that his plan is to find the Phoenixes and use them to stop the Astral Empire from conquering Earth. The next day, Bart asks Gail to help him find the Phoenixes, and she obliges. He and Leo then tell Gail to go to Cosette, a secluded village to the east of Daea, to find a shard of the Spheralis, an ancient piece of technology that will help Gail locate the Phoenixes. Leo teaches Gail a special song that will convince the guards protecting the village to let Gail enter the area. Once Gail arrives at Cosette, Bart informs her that her task is to climb three windmills scattered around the region and activate their beacons; once this is done, the beacons will show where to go next to find the Spheralis shard. Gail lights the beacons and finds that their lights point to a strange well, which is actually an underground train station connected to the Royal Archive, an ancient storage vault that contains the Spheralis shard and many other relics.

In the Royal Archive, Bart tries to help Gail bypass the Archive's security by hacking into the computer system, claiming that he got an F for "Fantastic" in his computer class; however, he fails and triggers the Archive's defenses, forcing Gail to deal with an onslaught of security robots. Eventually, Gail reaches the end of the Archive and runs into Mother Computer. Bart once again tries to help, claiming that he got a D for "Diplomatic" in diplomacy school as he tries to reason with Mother Computer, but she tries to zap him with electricity, so he decides to sit back and let Gail handle it. Gail defeats Mother Computer and retrieves the Spheralis shard.

Later, after trekking the dangerous terrains of the Forbidden Lands, Gail reaches Pristine City, a futuristic city located directly above the area where the Phoenixes are stored, and meets up with Bart's Stellanite friends who take Gail's Spheralis shard and fuse it with the other shards to assemble the full Spheralis. Gail uses the Spheralis to enter E.D.E.N., the research lab beneath the city, and encounters Mother Computer once more. This time, Mother Computer recognizes Gail and reveals to her that she herself is a Phoenix. Mother Computer then asks Gail to give up on her quest and "rest" with the rest of her Phoenix brethren, but Gail refuses, so they fight again and Gail destroys Mother Computer for good.

Afterwards, Gail deactivates the signal jammer that was preventing Bart from being able to communicate with Gail while she was in E.D.E.N. Seeing that the signal jammer is off, Bart takes the opportunity to use the Golem head to teleport into the Phoenix vault and congratulate Gail in person. Gail relays what she learned from Mother Computer to Bart, and he expresses relief at the notion that Gail is a Phoenix, telling her that this is great news because Gail is a good person. More Stellanites enter the vault to try to awaken some Phoenixes, and Bart elaborates on the history of the Phoenixes and how they were the ones who ended the Great War by annihilating the area that would become the Scorchlands. While he's talking, a Stellanite approaches Bart and warns him that the Kobolds have breached the vault. Panicked, Bart asks Gail to hold them off while he tries to wake up one of the Phoenixes. Gail does so, and winds up fighting Katash again. Just as Katash is about to finish Gail off, the Phoenix Bart was trying to stir finally wakes up and punches Katash, sending him flying. Bart befriends the Phoenix, whose name is Zero, and instructs him to defend Earth from the Astral Empire.

The game closes on Bart writing an entry in his log, wherein he describes how Zero and the Stellanites warded off the Astral Empire but only to make the Astral Empire lust for the power of the Phoenixes, how the Stellanites have made friends with the humans and convinced the Peace Ministers to back off on the technological restrictions, and how the people of Castella built a statue in Gail's honor but she didn't like it.
