• January: Nintendo releases the light gun arcade game Laser Clay Shooting System. The oil crisis of 1973, which struck a few months after the game's release, would damage sales of the game and leave Nintendo with around 5 billion yen in debt.
• Nintendo releases the electronic toy called the Power Lift.
