Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the fourth mainline entry in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, set to release on the Nintendo Switch. The game is set in the future of both Xenoblade Chronicles (2010) and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (2017), using plot elements inherited from both games. It also visually continues the trend set by Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
It was released on July 29, 2022.
Gameplay[]
Similarly to previous games, fighting in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 involves automatic attacks and the use of Arts. The game introduces a new feature called Ouroboros forms, where two party members merge into a stronger form. The Ouroboros forms shown are between Noah & Mio, Lanz & Sena, and Eunie & Taion. The game also features Hero characters, who are members of the party but are not playable.
Playable characters[]
- Noah - One of the two main protagonists. He is a solider of Keves. He is also an off-seer who mourns for soldiers who’ve lost their lives on the battlefield.
- Mio - The other protagonist. She fights for Agnus and is an off-seer like Noah.
- Lanz - An ally of Noah who wields a Great Sword in battle.
- Taion - A tactician fighting alongside Mio. He wields strange origami-like weapons in battle.

Development[]
The game was first hinted at in an interview for the release of the official OST for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in 2018 by Koh Kojima, one of the series' director. References to "Monolith Soft's next big project" were made over the years since then. In a statement made by Tetsuya Takahashi, the producer of the series, on the date of announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, he said that the visual used for the trailer of the Mechonis' Sword next to the wounded Urayan Titan is something he thought up before they even started the development of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The game was officially revealed during a Nintendo Direct on February 9th 2022.
Release[]
Originally planned for release in September 2022, the game released two months earlier on July 29, 2022.
Pre-orders for the "Special Edition" bundles led to "high volume of traffic" on the My Nintendo Store, preventing purchases to buyers. Nintendo stated that the bundle would be available again in the future.[1]
Reception[]
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 received “generally favorable reviews,” according to review aggregation website Metacritic.
