The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after World War II between powers in the Western Bloc, which comprised of the United States and its NATO allies, and powers in the Eastern Bloc, consisting of the Soviet Union and its allies in the Warsaw Pact.
However, the Western Bloc and its allies did not realize that many of their respective actions were orchestrated by HYDRA, which was thought to have been disbanded at the end of World War II. This clandestine manipulation by the resurgent HYDRA fed many crises and led to global unrest, part of their grand plan to establish a new world order.

Outbreak of War[]
The Cold War began in 1947 during post-war tensions between the United States of America and the Soviet Union, with both sides' allies in between.
Stark Industries was involved in developing weapons for the United States Armed Forces during the Cold War.[3] A fake town was built during the 1940s in the Mojave Desert to serve as a nuclear test site but was abandoned after the war ended.[4]
HYDRA Manipulation[]
What the Western Bloc and its allies did not know was that the terrorist organization HYDRA, thought to be disbanded shortly before the end of World War II, were still secretly active and operating in an alliance with the Soviet Union, being responsible for orchestrating many crises of the Cold War, including the Cuban missile crisis, the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963,[5][1] the rise to power of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya, the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the early 1980s recession, and many other incidents. HYDRA's best assassin, Winter Soldier, was sent by the Soviet Union to eliminate many people who posed a threat to HYDRA's plans.[1]
During the war, the CIA assigned Nick Fury to several missions in Belfast, Belgrade, Bucharest and Budapest.[2]
When a group of radicals in East Berlin obtained a piece of HYDRA technology and attempted to reverse-engineer it, Hank Pym was sent by S.H.I.E.L.D. to ruin their plans. When he succeeded, he decided to do more field work for them in his Ant-Man Suit.[6] However, his wife, Janet van Dyne, disappeared and was presumed killed during a mission with him to intercept and disable a Soviet ICBM.[7]
End of the War[]
The Cold War ended in 1991 after the Soviet Union was dissolved into several breakaway states.[1]
