The 500 Year War was a conflict between the Eternals and Deviants that lasted nearly 500 years.
Background[]
A long time ago, Arishem the Judge created the Deviants and sent them to Earth. However, they began to adapt and became rebellious. So, he then created another group of people named the Eternals to kill Deviants.[1]
War[]
Battle of Heian-Kyo[]
Druig and Makkari were sent to Heian-Kyo to stop a Deviant's crusade. They find the deviant that was named Kappa and battle him. Kappa is then shot by a man named Yoshiie Minamoto, forcing him to flee. Later, the Kappa sneaked up on Minamoto, but was stopped by Druig, who jumped in front of the victim. Kappa bit Druig, which allowed him to gain Druig's powers. Druig then controlled Minamoto to slain Kappa, severing his arm. Druig thought the Kappa died, but he escaped. Kappa used his new found abilities to control other deviants. Minamoto gave Druig his Onikirimaru as a reward. Meanwhile, the Kappa recovered and began planning an attack on the Eternals.[1]
Rescue of Kim Bu-Sik[]
Korea was being attacked by a Kappa controlled Deviant that earned the name Kumiho. Kim Bu-Sik was getting information of the Samguk Sagi Kumiho from High Priest when the Priest was suddenly killed by Kumiho. The deviant chased Bu-Sik until Kingo and Sprite intervened. They saved Bu-Sik by turning him invisible with Sprite's powers. Bu-Sik explained that Kumiho was a sorcerer who used a bead for power. Sprite then turned herself invisible and took the bead, draining the power and forcing Kumiho to scurry away.[1]
Ambush in Córdoba[]
Ajak and Phastos arrived in Córdoba to meet with the Juan de Soria and Lope de Fitero. They were told of Córdoba's past and their advancement in weapons. Phastos then talked with Ajak about how he wanted to help the people and stop the weapons from killing many people. Ajak reminded him of their mission. Suddenly, they heard screams and found the source, realizing that Deviants were attacking people. While fighting off the Deviants, Ajak and Phastos realized that they were not attacking humans, but just the two of them, which Ajak noted was similar to the events in Heian-Kyo and Korea. The two Eternals, with help from de Fitero, caused the Deviants to retreat.[1]
Battle of the Atlantic Ocean[]
A Deviant attacked a ship in the Atlantic Ocean which Gilgamesh was on, so Thena commandeered a ship to find him. When Thena found him, the Deviant attacked the ship and dragged Gilgamesh underwater. The captain of the ship panicked, believing the Deviant to be a Kraken. They fought the Deviant underwater, but eventually had to surface for air. While on the surface, they discovered that ship's crew had mutinied and thrown the captain overboard. Gilgamesh used the captain's gun to shoot the Deviant, and the pair chase after it as it sunk. The Deviant left behind poisonous ink and fled, causing them to realize that the Deviants were getting smarter and planning something.[1]
Battle of Beijing[]
In Beijing, a Deviant attacked a Sacred Dragon. Sersi and Ikaris began defending the dragon and the citizens present, but the dragon was killed. Meanwhile, Ikaris flew through the Deviants' heart, killing it. Sersi got emotional at the dragon's death, so Ikaris went searching for the Deviants Nest. He found the nest and went with Sersi, preparing to avenge the dragon's death. They contacted the rest of the Eternals and fought through the Deviants, until Ikaris was dragged underwater. Sersi rescued him and realized that the Deviants were coordinating their attacks when Thena, Makkari, and Kingo arrived. They joined the fight, along with Phastos, Ajak, Sprite, and Druig. Druig recognized the Kappa from Heian-Kyo and realized that it had absorbed his mind control ability, telling the Eternals to take the Kappa down. Thena summoned an axe and killed the Kappa, causing the other Deviants to fall.[1]
Aftermath[]
After the war had ended, the Eternals thought of this as a learning experience. A few years later, they found the artifacts that were gifted to them and asked Sprite to retell all of them for the group using her illusions.[1]
